Because Rehoboam humbled himself, the Lord’s anger turned from him, and he was not totally destroyed. Indeed, there was some good in Judah. King Rehoboam established himself firmly in Jerusalem and continued as king. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel in which to put his Name. His mother’s name was Naamah; she was an Ammonite. He did evil because he had not set his heart on seeking the Lord. – 2 Chronicles 12:12-14 NIV

We are reminded in 2 Timothy 3:16; All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness. Paul was writing to his Spiritual Son, the closest one to being an actual son to Paul and close brother/friend in the ministry. Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Testament- not the negation! The OLD TESTAMENT, is an important part of scripture and important for teaching and training in Righteousness. For if we DO NOT learn the lessons from our PAST we are doomed to repeat those mistakes and NOT carry the lessons forward- thus we NEED to relearn them- the HARD WAY!
Leader, 2 Chronicles is the history of the Southern Kingdom, Judah- after the division of the kingdom. Chapters 1-9 cover King Solomon and After the death of Solomon, the kingdom was divided. Ten tribes formed the Northern Kingdom, called Israel; Judah and Benjamin formed the Southern Kingdom, called Judah. The date of the division of the kingdom is approximately 931 BC. All the kings of the Northern Kingdom- Israel – NONE WERE GOOD! From Jeroboam to Hoshea, all did evil in the sight of the LORD! In the Southern Kingdom, Judah, there were a few GOOD Kings, they did ok in relation to honoring God-some of the time. There were 5 kings who brought revival back to Judah. Asa was the first (2 Chron 14:2-6). Jehoshaphat was RIGHTEOUS, he followed his fathers lead and built on it. (2 Chron 17:1-4). Then after some bad kings, some ok kings, and one of the worst, AHAZ- we got the best Hezekiah, then Manasseh and Josiah!
Conduit, by reading this HISTORY of Judah we can see a clear pattern. Whether good Father, or not- whether blessed with good tidings or wars- there is a pattern for revival! Revival refers to a spiritual reawakening from a state of dormancy or stagnation in the life of a believer. It encompasses the resurfacing of LOVE for God, an appreciation of God’s holiness, a PASSION for His Word and His church, a convicting awareness of personal and corporate sin, a spirit of HUMILITY, and a desire for repentance and growth in righteousness. In order to do that we are to follow the pattern: We must return to the Word of God. We must KNOW the WORD, so we can separate the TRUTH from the LIE; scriptural separation from the WORLD’s philosophy. We must build- our FAITH/TRUST in our ‘God’ muscle. We must TEACH others the WORD of God. We must BELIEVE and DO what GOD TELLS US IN HIS WORD! God gave us the plan-in HIS STORY! NOW, WORK THE PLAN! Revival begins with us, inward- then moves to others!
