Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my concerns. See if there is any offensive way in me; lead me in the way everlasting. -Psalm 139:23-24 BSB
Warrior;
This is a great psalm, it is a cry out to God and the understanding His OMNI qualities. He is Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Omniscient and God is also Omnibenevolent! The word, omni, here the prefix to these 4 words is Latin, and it means “ALL”. Omnibenevolence means ALL GOOD, or charitable, that God is absolutely good and that no action or motive or thought or feeling or anything else about Him is NOT purely good. He is “all-good”, HE IS THE ONLY GOOD! Jesus Himself asserted this fact, when He said that no one is truly good except God Himself (Mark 10:18). We human beings, have sin in our DNA, in our flesh, however we can do good things, BUT only God is omnibenevolent, or wholly good. Remember man’s heart is damaged, tainted by our DNA which is composed of sin! Jeremiah 17:9 is clear about the human heart, and so is the rest of the Bible. Mark 7:21; For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders. Paul goes in depth on the human heart in his letter to the Romans. As it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” “Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive.” “The venom of asps is under their lips.” “Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.” (Romans 3:10-14)
Leader, Omnipotent means ALL POWERFUL! God sits ABOVE ALL THINGS, He has supreme power. This means God can do what he wants. God is not subject to physical limitations like man is. Being omnipotent, God has power over wind, water, gravity, physics, etc. God’s power is infinite, or limitless. He is not bound by the laws of time, space, science- He created these laws and even the laws are subject to Him. In Mark 4:35-41 we recall how Jesus calmed the sea. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” (Mark 4:40-41) Bible scholars are not sure if it was David, or the prophet Zechariah who wrote this psalm, some suggest it could have been the first man, Adam, who penned this Psalm. Whoever wrote it they focused on wanting UNION with God and focused on His Omniscience and His Omnipresence. God is all KNOWING, and HE IS ALL PRESENT.
Conduit; ‘My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in secret, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all my days were written in Your book and ordained for me before one of them came to be.’(v15-16) God knows IT ALL, there is nothing we can hide from God. He knew it all before you were! God CANNOT be disappointed in you, He knew it all before you were! Remember this, the next time you are disappointed in yourself and move away from God because you believe He is upset with you or disappointed. Romans 5:8 says, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Where can I go to escape Your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, You are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle by the farthest sea, even there Your hand will guide me; Your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me. (v 7-11a) God knows where you are at, God knows ALL that you have ever done, and will ever do- before your existence. When we couple that with God’s ALL POWERFULNESS, and His Goodness- the choice is simple! Search me O God, test me, find any offense in me and remove it. Lord, God whatever separates me from you, please separate me from it! I want to bring you Glory and Honor because you alone are God. Please Lord whatever you find in me that hinders, separates, or keeps me out of your will, or your way- please God I beg of you and give you all rights to remove whatever that is from my life, remove it from my heart! Make me Holy, God, as you are holy! WE cry out to you, we seek your hand and your will. We ask this in Jesus Holy, precious name. Amen!
