“Ah, stubborn children,” declares the Lord, “who carry out a plan, but not mine, and who make an alliance, but not of my Spirit, that they may add sin to sin; who set out to go down to Egypt, without asking for my direction, to take refuge in the protection of Pharaoh and to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt! Therefore shall the protection of Pharaoh turn to your shame, and the shelter in the shadow of Egypt to your humiliation. – Isaiah 30:1-3 ESV
Warrior;
Where do you get your advice? There are many who claim to be followers of the Risen Christ, yet still seek the ways of this world to solve the problems of this world. We are to seek guidance from the Word of the Lord first and foremost, and when we are seeking additional guidance then we seek people of the book. Too many “followers’ of Christ are following the knowledge and ways of this world. The Bible does tell us in Proverbs 15:22: Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed. This is where a lazy understanding of the Bible is dangerous. We are called to see many advisers; however, we need to make sure those advisers are following God.
Leader, According to King Solomon, WISDOM is gained from God, “For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding” Proverbs 2:6. If we want to know God’s will for our lives then we must seek HIS WILL from HIS WORD. This is what the Psalmist meant when he wrote: Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. (Psalm 119:105) Paul told us we are to be different, that this is NOT our world, so we should NOT act like earth dwellers, like people who are comfortably going away from God, taking the WIDE, EASY path- that THE WORLD is on. We are told to do what others are NOT WILLING TO DO and that is to enter through the NARROW GATE: “You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it. (Matthew 7:13-14) Paul goes further and challenges us to discern between the way of the WORLD and the WAY OF THE LORD: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:2)
Conduit, In the OLD TESTAMENT EGYPT represent the world. God used Moses to take His people out of Egypt, but many of them, and us- got out of EGYPT, but we didn’t get EGYPT out of us! And Beware of people who tell you God told them something to tell you? If you are walking with God, talking with God and seeking God…If God has something to tell you, He will tell you! Beware of well-intentioned people who want to give you a “Word from God”. How do you know it is from God and not from their own flesh and the worlds way to do things? If God wants you to know something and you are seeking Him, you must believe HE IS A GOOD FATHER! “You fathers—if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.” (Luke 11:11-13) Today, be different, seek the LORDS answers to your struggles and problems in the world. Trust that our GOD is NOT deaf, nor mute. Trust that your Father will speak directly to you through prayer and Bible study as you seek His will and HIS WAY for your life. Psalm 1, the Living Bible: Oh, the joys of those who do not follow evil men’s advice, who do not hang around with sinners, scoffing at the things of God. But they delight in doing everything God wants them to, and day and night are always meditating on his laws and thinking about ways to follow him more closely. They are like trees along a riverbank bearing luscious fruit each season without fail. Their leaves shall never wither, and all they do shall prosper. But for sinners, what a different story! They blow away like chaff before the wind. They are not safe on Judgment Day; they shall not stand among the godly. For the Lord watches over all the plans and paths of godly men, but the paths of the godless lead to doom.
