Then Jesus said to him, “Put your sword back into its place. For all who take the sword will perish by the sword. Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then should the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?” At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Day after day I sat in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. -Matthew 26:51-55 ESV

If you want to blame anybody for Jesus’ death on the cross we can blame HUMANITY, or GOD- because the only thing that held JESUS on that CROSS, was the LOVE HE HAS FOR US! The nails that held JESUS on the CROSS, were the NAILS OF LOVE for HIS FATHER- GOD, and for those that HIS FATHER gave HIM! And this is the will of God, that I should not lose even one of all those he has given me, but that I should raise them up at the last day. (John 6:39) So Pilate said to him, “You will not speak to me? Do you not know that I have authority to release you and authority to crucify you?” Jesus answered him, “You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above. Therefore he who delivered me over to you has the greater sin.” (John 19:10-11)
Leader, God is in control! There were a multitude of angels ready with swords drawn and RIGHTEOUSNESS as their mission statement, but Jesus said, “NO, put your swords away for I love these people and they will die eternally unless I take on their sin and they receive my righteousness”. Jesus didn’t need Peter’s little sword that night, and He doesn’t need you or me! Had He chosen to do so, Jesus could have summoned a myriad of angels- the original text uses the word MURIUS- an innumerable number or 10,000 times 10,000 (myriads of angels). Since a single angel was able to obliterate 185,000 men in one night- see 2 Kings 19:32-35- it would mean the combined strength of a SINGLE legion of 6,000 angels would be enough to destroy 1,110,000,000 men (that is, one billion, one hundred ten million men) — and that’s just the combined power in one legion of angels!
Conduit, the combined strength in twelve legions of angels could have wiped out the entire human race! But Jesus didn’t call on the supernatural help that was available to Him. Why? Because He knew it was time for Him to voluntarily lay down His life for the sin of the human race. John 3:16 tells us that God so loved the WORLD, HE did something about it! Love is a VERB! “The Father loves me because I sacrifice my life so I may take it back again. No one can take my life from me. I sacrifice it voluntarily. For I have the authority to lay it down when I want to and also to take it up again. For this is what my Father has commanded.” (John 10:17-18) Jesus + NOTHING= Salvation! Jesus tells us how to THANK HIM, how to show HIM LOVE; Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.” (John 14:21) LOVE like JESUS and GIVE UNTIL there is nothing left to give- because HE FIRST LOVED YOU! Amen!
