Dr. David Jeremiah did a great study on the prophet Elijah. There is no BOOK of Elijah, we have none of his writings. . We don’t know anything about his parents, or where he came from. In the book of 1 Kings Elijah shows up and is ON THE SCENE. Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word.” (1 Kings 17:1) Elijah shows up and challenges the King of Israel, for worshiping Baal and not Jehovah. An ordinary man, who God used EXTRA ordinarily! As a matter of fact: there is more written in the Bible about Elijah, than anybody else with the exception of Moses and Jesus! Moses was the LAW GIVER, and Elijah was the reformer of the law. Elijah is mentioned more in the NEW TESTAMENT than any other prophet!
Leader, James is telling us, there was ‘nothing special about Elijah’, as a matter of fact James said that Elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are- in other words, this was NOT some super-human. Yet, Elijah was used in a SPECIAL way by God, because God was his FIRST LOVE. There have only been three cycles of Miracles throughout history. Moses and Joshua were used by God to be the CONDUITS for HIS MIRACLES in the Exodus; plagues, parting of the Red Sea, water from rock, manna from heaven…. We then go miracle-less for close to 1800 years and now ELIJAH, and his protege’ Elisha do a recorded 21 miracles. Of course Jesus was the third cycle of miracles, and the remnants, by the apostles, happened in the AFTER GLOW of His resurrection. The last set of miracles WILL COME SOON- as revealed in the final chapter of REVELATION.
Conduit; just like you and I, Elijah was an ordinary man. Yet, he was one of only 2 men to never die. Enoch, walked with God and was no more. (Gen 5:24) As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. Elisha saw this and cried out, “My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!” And Elisha saw him no more. (2 Kings 2:11-12) What made ELIJAH special to God, to our Word and to our FAITH is that he chose the guidance of God verses the FAME and FAVOR of this world! Elijah came on the scene with the most ruthless of all Kings of Israel, Ahab; There was none who sold himself to do what was evil in the sight of the LORD like Ahab, whom Jezebel his wife incited. (1 Kings 21:25) Have eyes to see and ears to hear what the WORD of GOD is telling us! What makes us special is NOT who we are, but WHO’S we are! We are NOT special because of what we have done, can do, or might do- we become special by what GOD DOES THROUGH US! AVAIL and COMMIT soldier. God doesn’t NEED anybody, but uses the WILLING! Are you willing to be used GREATLY by GOD?
