Lord; through the night my outstretched hands did not grow weary; my soul refused to be comforted. I remembered You, O God, and I groaned; I mused and my spirit grew faint. Selah. You have kept my eyes from closing; I am too troubled to speak. I considered days of old, years long in the past. At night I remembered my song; in my heart I mused, and my spirit pondered: “Will the Lord spurn us forever and never show His favor again? Is His loving devotion gone forever? Has His promise failed for all time? Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has His anger shut off His compassion?” Selah. So I said, “I am grieved that the right hand of the Most High has changed.” -Psalm 77:1-10 ESV
Warrior;
What a great Psalm and it shows the pattern of most men and women. We get so focused on ourselves, on our predicament on our GOLIATH, and we lose focus on the OBJECT of our FAITH. We take our eyes off of our God and we put them on ourselves and our circumstances and we feel defeated, demoralized, doomed…and we play the victim! This is verse 1-10 IT IS ALL ABOUT US, POOR ME! Then in Verse 11 NLT, it has the BIG BUT- ‘BUT THEN’ I recall all you have done, O LORD; (77:11a) As you read this entire PSALM, the psalmist finally gets HIS FOCUS ON GOD! After the big ‘BUT’, HE NOW FOCUSES ON OUR BIG LORD!
Leader, IN THE BEGINNING we tend to make it all about us. When it is all about US, things get scary. We need to get your focus off of us and REMEMBER; put back together, how GREAT IS OUR LORD! Notice at the beginning all the I, ME, MY. And notice the complaining, the whining and the ‘poor me’. But something changes and then it morphs to focus on God. It is a FOCUS issue. We must remember like Gideon vs Midianites (Judges 7), and like Jehoshaphat in the defeat of Moab and Ammon (2 Chronicles 20)- that the battle, the problems, the GLORY, IS THE LORDS!
Conduit, the reason why David was successful against Goliath, when the entire Israel army was cowering in the caves is because David REMEMBERED. He remembered how God had delivered him from the lion and the bear, He REMEMBERED who HIS GOD WAS, IS and ALWAYS WILL BE! (1 Samuel 17) Today, GET YOUR EYES off of your problems, and your abilities and GET THEM ON GOD! Quit playing victim. You are GODS MASTERPIECE! Quit being like the world and playing the victim. You cannot be a VICTIM and a CHILD OF THE RISEN KING! 2 polar opposite things cannot possess the same space in time. You must CHOOSE! Will you focus on you and play the VICTIM, or will you focus on GOD and BRING HIM GLORY? Choose well! Amen!
