Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. – 2 Peter 1:10-11 ESV
Warrior;
This is about Confidence in your position with God. To understand that God has CALLED you, and that God has CHOSEN you! It is about the B.S- Belief System. Everything we do, or do not do, is driven by a BELIEF SYSTEM. If you think about it, that is what FAITH is, a BELIEF SYSTEM. Our beliefs dictate our actions and the justification for those actions. God tells us without this belief system called FAITH- it is impossible to please Him. If we have doubt, then that creates CONFUSION. Yahweh is not a God of confusion, that is from the devil. Our enemy’s #1 weapon formed against us is CONFUSION. When we are confused we don’t speak TRUTH to the lies of the world, step out, or stand up. We must walk in the CONFIDENCE of who we are in the LORD and what HE HAS CALLED US TO DO! As we look to the Apostle Paul, we can see the confidence and boldness that he exerts outwardly because he believes inwardly. Notice the opening in his 1st letter to the church in Corinth. “Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and our brother Sosthenes, To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ”. Paul is heeding Peter’s advice and “Making his calling and his election sure!!
Leader, GotQuestions dot Org comments the following on this scripture: A believer’s “calling” is God’s drawing him to salvation. Peter alludes to this calling earlier in the same chapter when he speaks of God “who called us by his own glory and goodness” (2 Peter 1:3). A believer’s “election” is God’s selection of him to be saved from before time began. The doctrine of election or predestination is taught elsewhere in the Bible, too (see Romans 8:29–30; Ephesians 1:5, 11; Colossians 3:12; 1 Thessalonians 1:4; and 2 Timothy 2:10). God is the one who calls and elects, so the believer’s calling and election are already “sure” from God’s point of view; therefore, the command for believers to diligently make their calling and election sure must refer to the believers’ point of view. God wants us to have assurance of our salvation, and the best way to do that is to be pursuing godly virtues and actively growing in the Christian life. Notice how Paul introduces Himself in 1 Corinthians 1:1; 1Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God. Any questions? How do you describe yourself when you meet someone new? Do you know your calling? What is God’s will for your life? C.T. Studd wrote a great poem and the recurring line of prose throughout his poem, shows the clarity of a Warrior for God; “Only one life, ’twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last”! That was Paul’s mindset, is that yours?
Conduit, ‘We have only one life and it will be soon to pass. Only what we do for Christ is going to last’. It is important that we know what we are, by the WILL OF GOD. What is God’s will for our life? Nothing else is as important as fulfilling God’s purpose for our creation, our calling- our selection is because He is love and He will have mercy on who He chooses to have Mercy on! Consider in the 1st 10 Verses of 1 Corinthians, Paul uses and refers to Jesus Christ, over and over again. In every verse except v 5, Paul makes use of the name of Jesus, and His title, and\or His role. and in v5, he says enriched by HIM. Paul is centered on Christ-Christ was His life. How much time do you spend daily centered on Jesus? How many people, who are NOT family, know of your PASSION for the CHRIST? I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. (Galatians 2:20). If it is about CHRIST and we know we have been elected and called- then be CONFIDENT and BOLD. The world wants you to look in your past, but God is coming in the NEAR FUTURE! The World wants you to look down, but GOD is calling us to LOOK UP! If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. (Colossians 3:1-4) For in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you! Look up and examine yourself to see if you are still in the Faith! Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his purpose.
