This is the EXISTENTIAL question of our ETERNAL existence! This becomes the barometer for our MISSION-VISION in life. This makes every other QUESTION, secondary in nature in importance, significance and implication! Who do you say that JESUS IS? Even those who are not persuaded by Christianity often have great respect for Jesus. Among those who reject the idea that Jesus was God incarnate, there are many who are nevertheless followers of him to some degree. “Jesus was a great moral teacher”, some say, “but he wasn’t God”. This idea that Jesus was merely a great human being, a good man, or a profitable teacher must be reconciled with the WORD of GOD, with HIS OWN WORDS! C.S. Lewis calls this a TRILEMA. We must decide is Jesus a Liar, a Lunatic or is HE MY LORD?
Leader, Jesus made the most astonishing claims about himself. It is one thing to ask a person WHO they think Jesus IS\WAS. I would like to suggest that it is MOST IMPORTANT to know WHO JESUS says HE IS! In John’s gospel-the apostle whom Jesus loved- John reminds us that Jesus made 7- ‘I AM’ statements about HIMSELF. Here is WHO JESUS says HE IS: I AM…the BREAD of LIFE (John 6:35, 48, 51), the LIGHT of the WORLD (8:12, 9:5), the DOOR of the SHEEP (10:7-9), the GOOD SHEPHERD (10:11,14), the RESURRECTION and the LIFE (11:25), THE WAY, THE TRUTH, the LIFE (14:6), I AM the TRUE VINE (15:1). JESUS is the whole ENCHILADA! He is the REASON for our SEASON!
Conduit, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (John 1:1-5) Paul in his letter to Colossian believers tells us who he believes CHRIST is: Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together. Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything. (Col 1:15-18) Who is JESUS to you? And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.” Give God the GLORY!
