Jesus wept. – John 11:35 ESV
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” The Apostle Paul told the Corinthian church to do as He does, because He is doing what Jesus did. “Do as I do, for I am doing as Christ did.” (1 Corinthian 11:1) When Jesus was fulfilling the prophecies of Isaiah and Daniel, when He road into Jerusalem to fulfill the “69 weeks” between Artaxerxes proclamation to rebuild Jerusalem, till the day the Messiah would ride into Jerusalem, on a donkey, to the cries of the people, “Save NOW, SAVE NOW- Hosanna”- HE WEPT OVER JERUSALEM! And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, saying, “Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up a barricade around you and surround you and hem you in on every side and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.” (Luke 9:41-44)
Leader, If you look at the Great men and women of the Bible- you will see emotional involvement! As soon as I heard this, I tore my garment and my cloak and pulled hair from my head and beard and sat appalled. Then all who trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the faithlessness of the returned exiles, gathered around me while I sat appalled until the evening sacrifice. (Ezra 9:3-4) 57 years after Ezra started his work of rebuilding the temple, and then teaching the word of God- he found out that his people were again, living in sin and taking foreign wives, against the will of God- as brides. He got emotionally involved. In that time frame, the tearing of clothes and ripping out of hair, was a way to show extreme emotion, extreme anger. When Nehemiah heard from his brother that Jerusalem and its walls were a mess, he wept! And they told me, “The remnant who survived the exile are there in the province, in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.” When I heard these words, I sat down and wept. I mourned for days, fasting and praying before the God of heaven. (Nehemiah 1:3-4)
Conduit, whether you are talking about Moses, David, Elijah, or Daniel, Nehemiah or Ezra- those who LOVE GOD and HIS WAYS, are emotionally involved! In Isaiah 53 Jesus is described this way: He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth.” “Jesus wept” (Greek: ἐδάκρυσεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς, edákrysen o Iesoús lit. “Jesus shed tears”) is famous for being the shortest verse in the English Bible. There was a song by Brandon Heath called, “Give me Your Eyes”- so I can see! Do you have the eyes of Christ? When you look at the world and the way we no longer believe the Bible is the Word of God, that the Bible is truth-do you weep? Are you living your best life now, are you working to be happy in this world, are you building a kingdom on this planet? Or are you looking through the eyes of Jesus and seeing things as He does, and it makes you sad, it makes you weep? This is a clear way to find out which Kingdom you are a part of? When you look at America and our World, as we choose what parts of the Bible to believe, as we decide what is ok, and what is allowable- do you WEEP, or are evolving and ok with how the WORLD and the CHURCH are deciding which parts of the Bible are relevant and applicable today? It’s time to refocus. It is time to get both feet in the Kingdom and be like Jesus and weep for we have gone astray. Oh God forgive us for the original sin of thinking we can do things our way, please forgive us for perverting your word and our bodies and minds with the twisting of the WORD OF GOD, to create our own Word of the World! Lord help us with our unbelief! Amen.
