the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy.” “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. – Revelation 20:10-12 ESV
In one of the lowest points in the history of America and of World War 2, General Douglas MacArthur had to be smuggled out of the Philippines. He had been the commander and oversaw the battles in Pacific Ocean. In a matter of a few short months, the Japanese had devastated the U.S. military in the Pacific. The attack at Pearl Harbor was a huge blow, and afterward Japan attacked the United States and other nations all throughout the Pacific Ocean. Included in these attacks was the Philippines, where 90,000 American and Filipino troops tried to fight off the Japanese onslaught. MacArthur was expecting to continue the fight to save his men in the Philippines, but was informed that there was nothing he could do in the short term, it would fall to the Japanese and most- if not all, would die. MacArthur cared greatly for his soldiers and the people of the Philippines. For the next 2.5 years MacArthur and those still in the Philippines lived by the words; “I shall return”. MacArthur lived by those words for the next 2.5 years, doing everything in his power to free the islands and the people he cared so much for. “But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap. For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.” (Luke 21:34-36)
Leader, MacArthur’s words of HOPE were not just for MacArthur’s ego, pride or sake. The Filipinos and Americans who were trapped by the Japanese and would soon fall victim to their brutality heard those words as well. “I shall return” became a rallying cry for those who were still fighting the Japanese, giving them hope when it seemed that there was no hope. Two thousand years ago, Jesus Christ left the earth and assumed His place at the right hand of the Father. Christ promised: “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:3). When the time is right, He will return. Jesus did NOT make a wish, it was not a vague desire. With Christ, it is a definite statement of fact. With America going the way of the world, many are losing HOPE. We need to hold on to the HOPE OF CHRISTS RETURN, no matter the distress in this wicked world. Jesus, the Christ, MADE A promise that is surer than General MacArthur’s, and it has even greater ramifications. Billy Graham constantly reminded us of the HOPE we have in CHRIST. “For the believer there is hope beyond the grave, because Jesus Christ has opened the door to heaven for us by His death and resurrection.” So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)
Conduit, So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:6-11) These Apostles, and followers of Christ had it right, LOOK UP! Jesus Himself referred to His Second coming 21 times. According to David Jeremiah, references to Jesus’ second coming outnumber prophecies about His first ADVENT by a FACTOR of 8. In the Bible, the number 8 represents NEW BEGINNINGS, it represents Jesus! In the OLD TESTAMENT, no less than 17 books refer to HIS RETURN. In the NEW TESTAMENT- 23 of the 27 books mention Christ’s SECOND COMING. 7 out of every 10 chapters in the NEW TESTAMENT and 1 out of every 30 verses teaches us that Jesus is coming back to this earth! “And behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” In the FINAL CHAPTER OF THE ENTIRE BIBLE, chapter 22 of the book of REVELATION, Jesus Himself says it three times: I AM COMING SOON! (Revelation 22:7,12,20) Again, many numbers in the Hebrew language tend to have a deeper meaning. The number 3, shelosh, sheloshah means harmony, new life, and completeness. The only HOPE FOR AMERICA is JESUS SECOND COMING, that begins with the RAPTURE and ends with His church returning with HIM, and then beginning the Millennial rule on this planet! HE IS COMING SOON! Keep HOPE ALIVE and LOOK UP FOR JESUS!
