And the devil took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, and said to him, “To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will. If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours.” And Jesus answered him, “It is written,” ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.’”- Luke 4:5-8 ESV

Jesus was tempted with three specific EASY things.  The devil is always about EASY, whereas God is about, RIGHTEOUS, JUSTICE, MERCY and GRACE!  The devil is the father of confusion and lies, but He is also the FATHER OF EASY!  (Jesus) for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days. And when they ended, he was hungry. The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.” (Luke 4:2-3) The devil attempted to confuse Jesus and to make things easier for Him.  His mean, cruel Father has let him go 40 days without food, it would be SO EASY for Jesus, with His Power, to turn stones into bread and eat.  And he took him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, for it is written,” ‘He will command his angels concerning you, to guard you, ‘and “‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’” (Luke 4:9-11) The devil again used confusion and suggested EASY to our LORD.  “Nobody believes you are the Son of God, so just throw yourself down and the angels will swoop in and save you and then they will know that YOU ARE THE SON OF GOD- that would be much EASIER!  Beware of EASY, it is the pathway for those who are going to HELL, comfortably!

Leader, Our Lord made it clear there are ONLY 2 paths, one is HARD and LONELY, and one is EASY and bustling with many folks. You cannot be on both paths, you are on one, or the other- they are paths going in different directions! One is leading to TEAM JESUS and the other is leading to the WORLDS TEAM! The Voice paraphrase puts it this way: There are two paths before you; you may take only one path. One doorway is narrow. And one door is wide. Go through the narrow door. For the wide door leads to a wide path, and the wide path is broad; the wide, broad path is easy, and the wide, broad, easy path has many, many people on it; but the wide, broad, easy, crowded path leads to death. Now then that narrow door leads to a narrow road that in turn leads to life. It is hard to find that road. Not many people manage it. (Matthew 7:13-14) Today’s passage that Jesus quoted was first mentioned at the end of the desert journey. The Hebrews were finally ready to enter the Promised Land, the payoff was about to happen and God, one last time, gave His “final orders”. “And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, You shall fear the LORD your God. You shall serve him and hold fast to him, and by his name you shall swear. (Deuteronomy 10:12,20) God is again telling us to CHOOSE HIM, or choose another! That is what makes Daniel such a great example for us to follow. In Babylon they had many Gods, but Daniel had but one God, THE GOD! There is a man in your kingdom in whom is the spirit of the holy gods. In the days of your father, light and understanding and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods were found in him. (Daniel 5:11a) The gods of Greek mythology and of pagan people were NOT HOLY, but sexual, debase and licentious.

Conduit, worship can be remembered by breaking it down to WORTH SHIP. Worship can be defined as “the reverence or adoration that one shows toward something or someone; holding a person or object in high esteem; or giving a person or an object a place of importance or honor.” Worship is declaring the greatness of someone or something. It is the act of giving up your own glory to make sure everyone knows that the thing being worshiped is pretty awesome. We all serve a God\God’s. And every God requires a sacrifice. We sacrifice our time, our resources, our gifts and talents all at the altar of some God. Everybody is worshipping something, whatever they worship is their God. In Biblical days people were smart enough, and honest enough to know this and so they named their Gods. They were honest and they identified the MASTER PASSION of their life, their God. For some it is a car, others it is a family, or a mate, for others it is fame\fortune, for some it is sex, or their body is their God. If someone lived for Pleasure, or thrill they would be worshippers of Molech. Those that worshipped money, their master passion was gaining money, power and possessions were worshippers of Mammon. If like today’s world, they worshipped sex, with the random sexual encounters, where sex became the MASTER PASSION they would have worshipped Ashtoreth or Asherah. Today we have people who worship the earth, who are GREEN, who are into SAVING THE PLANET, well those would have admitted to worshipping Baal. Jesus told us clearly a house divided against itself will NOT STAND! (Mark 3:25) He also stated this clear wisdom, that was shared in the Sermon on the Mount: “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money. (Matthew 6:24) It is time to decide, WHOM WILL YOU FOLLOW? Consider the JOSHUA imperative! “Now therefore fear the LORD and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:14-15)
