And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.- Matthew 2:11 ESV
Warrior;
Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift! (2 Corinthians 9:15). The whole nature of Christmas is to give gifts. God gave us the ultimate gift; in the 9th chapter of Isaiah, it tells us of the GIFT: For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is GIVEN. It is incredible to note that we GIVE, because GOD first gave. God is always the initiator of the giving! The Ministry of RECONCILIATION is initiated and completed by God; Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. (2 Corinthians 5:17-19) He keeps on giving! Why do we LOVE GOD? We love because he first loved us. (1 John 4:19)
Leader, some of the most famous people in the Christmas story are the wise men. We don’t know how many there were, we know that they gave three gifts. But we don’t know how many there were, and we know that they were NOT at the birth of Jesus, they met Jesus a few months later, possibly up to when he was about 18 months old. But what we do know is they gave 4 gifts. The famous three are Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. God is a purpose driven God, and the reason for the three gifts were to acknowledge Jesus three roles; King, Priest and Savior. Gold is the ultimate precious metal. No single acid can corrode it, it will not rust! It is a noble medal it is the standard by which all wealth is measured; the Gold Standard. The Gift of Gold acknowledged His Kingship. Frankincense acknowledges His Priesthood. It is a delicious fragrance that is pleasing to God. It is a from a resin from a sacred tree, and in its origin, an Arab must be HOLY to even be in the presence of the tree. When lit on fire there is a bright white fire (LIGHT) that emits an aroma that is pleasing to God. This kind of Incense was always about a Thanksgiving offering and praise to God. And the third gift, Myrrh, was an embalming agent. This was due to His role as SAVIOR.
Conduit, the 4th gift that the MAGI gave was the first one that was given; they fell down and worshiped Him! Today as we get ready to celebrate Christmas what gifts are you bringing to the LAMB OF GOD, our KING, our PRIEST and our SAVIOR? Without a doubt the most important gift of all is the gift of WORSHIP, of REVERENCE of humility as we fall down and worship our Prince of Peace, our Lord of Lords. It is time to be as WISE Men and women and give to our LORD. Give of our treasury, since where our treasure is, there too is our heart. (Matthew 6:21) Gift our HIGH PRIEST; Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. (Hebrews 4:14-15) Give to our SAVIOR, for He gave us the greatest gift in this role; Savior! Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:3) Most importantly: as we celebrate the incarnation of our King, High Priest and Savior let us bring our HEARTS and MINDS to the Manger of God and FALL DOWN and WORSHIP the Babe in the manger, the King of Kings and the eternal high priest in the order of Melchizedek- Jesus!
