If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.- John 15:19 ESV
This is one of the most challenging activities and telling commitments about someone who claims to be a Christian: are they just IN THE WORLD, or are they OF THE WORLD. This has always been the dilemma for someone genuinely wanting to LIVE A LIFE of God, and a life, FOR GOD! We find this concept In the Lord’s prayer- not the model prayer given In Matthew 6:9-13 and in Luke 11:2-4 where we find Jesus instructing his apostles how they should pray, but our Lord praying for us, before he was to be arrested, tried, crucified and buried. In John 17, before Jesus was to begin the process of earning our salvation, Jesus prayed to the Father for the disciples and again reminded God and all who could hear that we are to be IN the world, NOT, OF the world. I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. (John 17:14-16)
Leader, we live in a time where it is hard to differentiate a TRUE FOLLOWER of Christ from earth dwellers who profess to follow after the God of the Bible. IN our election in America we have a large number of “Christians” and supposed followers of God voting for someone who mocks God, who discounts God’s law’s and moral code, and who believes that reading from the Bible is hate speech, bigoted and mean. This person is not even in “GOOD STANDING’ on the traditions of men in regard to their “religious” preference, never-the-less, in Right Standing with God. Yet, many so-called, “Christians” voted for a man and a party who is against their supposed love of Christ. Voting with their feelings and to “fit in”, instead of voting by virtue of the Word of God. Pornography and divorce rates are, not much different between those IN the WORLD- the church- and those of the earth, Children of Satan! Jesus Himself said, “why do you call Me, “Lord, Lord,” and do not do what I say? “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven”. (Luke 6:46, Matthew 7:21)
Conduit, J Warner Wallace put it this way: “In” the World: It’s Our Point of Location, “Of” the World: It’s Our Source of Information. We can live Like Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego- IN the World, but NOT of the World. Joseph was another great example of someone who was IN THE WORLD, but NOT OF THE WORLD. All 5 Heroes of the Bible, I just mentioned, had to choose to be IN Babylon or Egypt, and yet live a life that stood out, and NEVER BLENDED IN! In their book, ‘Living Among Lions’, David and Jason Benham gave a great analogy. When their mom would bake them chocolate chips cookies. She would first Blend in all the ingredients: flower, sugar, vanilla, butter, eggs, water and that would create cookie dough. You could no longer separate out anything, it was all blended together into a new creation. However, when Mom added the final ingredient, Chocolate Chips, these chips MIXED into the cookie dough. They could be pulled out and separated because they were IN the cookie dough, but NOT, ‘of’ the cookie dough. Even in the fiery furnace, the chocolate chips maintained their form, function, and flavor. In this impending dark time that America, and the world seem to be plunging into headfirst, we must remember that we are on a mission from Jesus, for Jesus and about Jesus. “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Luke 19:10) That is our mission, as well, and while fulfilling our MISSION, we must maintain our status of being Ambassadors in Chains. If the world voted differently than you, know you are on the right side of God. We are A PART of this world- NOT LIKE this world! Our home is heaven, and our Word and Way is laid out in HIS WORD and HIS WAY, our Good Book- the Word of God. Follow HIM, not them! Be like Jesus, not the World!
