And he called out with a mighty voice, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great!” Then I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you take part in her sins, lest you share in her plagues; for her sins are heaped high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. Pay her back as she herself has paid back others, and repay her double for her deeds; mix a double portion for her in the cup she mixed. As she glorified herself and lived in luxury, so give her a like measure of torment and mourning. – Revelation 2a,4-7a ESV
It is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment. “And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened… and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works… And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:11-12,15) God says we will be judged according to our works. The great news is we get to decide how God treats us. There is no surprise, there is no waiting to know- We get to choose how God treats us, AFTERLIFE, by how we LIVE OUR LIFE.
Leader, God says we decide how he treats us based on how we treat others. He says He will measure back to us, what we do to others. “Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” (Luke 6:38) In other words, the same mercy, grace and understanding we give to others, God will measure back to us. The same abuse, neglect, record-keeping, pound of flesh-yielding, God will measure back to us! And this is not just about the people we like, but the ones we don’t like, the ones we discount, the ones we elevate ourselves above. “And that servant who knew his master’s will but did not get ready or act according to his will, will receive a severe beating. But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.” (Luke 12:47-48)
Conduit, God has a set of Books in which everything we say and do are recorded. In one Book, called the Book of Life, are recorded the names of every born-again believer. The Bible says anyone whose name is not found in the Book of Life will be cast into the Lake of Fire to be tormented forever. In other Books are recorded every sin which we’ve committed and also the good we’ve done. It is important to realize that no matter how much one’s good works outweigh the bad, they will still be cast into the lake of Fire if their name isn’t found written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. This is why Jesus sternly warned in John 3:3, “Ye must be born again.” We cannot be saved by any amount of self-righteousness. We need HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS. Jesus told us clearly there is only one way to stand before God as ABBA DADDY and that is through acceptance of Jesus as our LORD, OUR SAVIOR, OUR PROPITIATION, as our RIGHTEOUSNESS! “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21). However, even though we can’t EARN ENTRANCE into heaven through works, we do get our REWARDS in heaven based on our WORKS. More importantly, when we turn the other cheek, when we forgive and show mercy and grace we become more like Jesus and we make our DADDY PROUD! However, the WAY OF THE WORLD is to keep a pound of flesh, to keep record of wrong, to judge and condemn others, while offering ourselves grace and mercy. We must remember WHOSE WE ARE: are you a child of Yahweh, or are you a child of the Devil- the Prince of this world? It is time to decide who you will serve? Who will you follow? Who will you listen to? Jesus is asking us to have ears to hear and hands and feet to follow: ““So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” (Luke 6:46, John 14:15)
