Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground! – Psalm 143:10 ESV
This shall be our cry! As a Child of God in these PERILOUS, CONFUSING, and clearly- END OF TIMES, TIME- we must be CRYING OUT TO GOD! What shall we cry out? Our example, JESUS, showed us and TOLD US- we need to have eyes to see and ears to hear. Jesus walked in our shoes, and HE ENDURED. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tested in every way as we are, yet without sin. (Hebrews 4:15) Jesus was about to undergo the most difficult struggle of his life: the crucifixion. Not only was Christ facing one of the most painful and disgraceful punishments—death on a cross—he was dreading something even worse. Jesus would be forsaken by the Father (Matthew 27:46) as he took on sin and death for us: For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:21) In the synoptic gospels of Luke and Mark we are told of HIS PRAYER and HIS RESPONSE: And he said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.” (Mark 14:36, Luke 22:42) This is the only way forward for a CHILD OF GOD- not my will, but your will be done- on earth as it is in heaven. All the while KNOWING this attribute of GOD: GOD IS GOOD- all the time. All the TIME- GOD IS GOOD!
Leader, all of the forerunners of our faith, the ones who GOT TO PLAY BIG FOR GOD, the ones who we read about today as examples for us tomorrow show us- they all had one thing in common: They knew GOD IS GOOD and they knew that it was God’s will that mattered, not their own! A voice is calling, “Clean the way for the LORD in the wilderness; Make smooth in the desert a highway for our God. Let every valley be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; And let the rough ground become a plain, and the rugged terrain a broad valley. (Isaiah 40:34) “You gave your good Spirit to instruct them, not withholding manna from them, and providing water to quench their thirst. (Nehemiah 9:20) And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. (Mark 10:18) The key to get through the turbulence of life, the undulating line of life in this cruel and unfair world- we must BELIEVE that GOD IS GOOD, and HE IS A REWARDER of those who seek HIS WILL! Jesus half-brother James knew this well and said it even better: If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. (James 1:5-8) We must ACT AS IF, even when our circumstances might want us to believe differently! When we do that we exhibit FAITH. Faith is believing what God says, even when your eyes, ears and feelings tell a different story- it is the GAP of what God says and what we feel!
Conduit; The battleground for every decision we face is the mind. That is where we wrestle with the pros and cons, weigh the potential consequences of each alternative, and ultimately make our choices. The impressions which weigh the heaviest and linger the longest in the mind will usually determine the course of action we take. That is why we must be sure our minds are controlled by GODS SPIRIT and focused on GODS WILL. Remember Paul’s exhortation to the Ephesians? “Don’t be unwise,” or “Don’t be without your minds.” And in the very next verse he charges, “But be filled with the Spirit.” We cannot trust our impressions if our wills are not so yielded to the Holy Spirit that He dominates our minds. But when GOD is in control, and our DESIRE is to do HIS WILL- we can expect HIS thoughts to be our thoughts, HIS WILL becomes our WAY. Since the mind is the high command headquarters where all decisions will be made, it must be not only controlled by the Spirit, but also programmed with the Word. This is how we get through these times! Paul went through HELL as he was working to get people to HEAVEN and Paul told the people at the church of COLOSSI, how he stayed focused on doing the will of GOD and going through all the pain and torment of evil people while he was serving a GOOD GOD: And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. (Colossians 3:15-17) Today as you look at the chaos of the world remember the 3-step plan: 1- Cry out to God. 2- Remember GOD IS GOOD. 3- COMMIT TO; God’s will and way, not your own!
