Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (Romans 8:35)
This question is a question every believer in Christ must have an answer for! And the answer is NO, NOTHING can separate us from the LOVE OF GOD- it is his character. God LOVES YOU, because of WHO HE IS, not because of WHO YOU ARE. God loves you based on what HE, HIS SON did on the CROSS and not your sins of OMISSION(what you DID NOT do, but SHOULD HAVE done), or your sins of COMMISSION(what you did that you should NOT have done). Paul answers his rhetorical question 2 verses later: “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:37-39
Leader, Of the last sayings of Christ on the cross, none is more important or more poignant than, “It is finished.” Found only in the Gospel of John, the Greek word translated “it is finished” is tetelestai, an accounting term that means “paid in full.” When Jesus uttered those words, He was declaring the debt owed to His Father was wiped away completely and forever. “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) The death, burial and resurrection by CHRIST on the CROSS has eliminated our sins; we are JUSTIFIED: Just as if we have never sinned! They are all covered, except for the unpardonable sin of, “Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit”: not acknowledging Jesus as Lord and Savior. “And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.” (Luke 12:10) Jesus alluded to this when He was incarnate, walking with His disciples. Then he said, “You will undoubtedly quote me this proverb: ‘Physician, heal yourself’—meaning, ‘Do miracles here in your hometown like those you did in Capernaum.’ But I tell you the truth, no prophet is accepted in his own hometown. (Luke 4:23-24)
Leader, But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.(Hebrews 11:6, James 1:6-8) And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household.” And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. And he marveled because of their unbelief. (Mark 6:4-6a) God is Omniscient, HIS KNOWLEDGE is perfect, complete. The Psalmist said, “His understanding is infinite” (Psalm 147:5). When Job had doubts about God’s love, Elihu helped him see it by asking, “Do you know about THE ONE perfect in knowledge?” (Job 37:16) God’s knowledge is perfect-comprehensive and all-encompassing. There is nothing that lies outside its scope. Nothing can possibly happen to us that God does not already know and has not known eternally. And that includes every trial we face in the course of a lifetime. When you take a few of God’s attributes and put them together we see clearly; we can NEVER disappoint God, because HE KNEW IT ALL, BEFORE WE WERE ANYTHING AT ALL! God is eternal, He is omniscient, and HE IS IMMUTABLE. He knows everything immediately and simultaneously. He never learns anything new by observing the succession of events that occur in time. His knowledge never varies- He Loved you before you were, He loved you when you accepted Him and He loves you today, tomorrow and forever! Rest in that Love and DON’T let your flesh, this world, or your enemy change THAT TRUTH- it will set you free! Remember, GOD IS greater than our heart and He knows ALL THINGS! See 1 John 3:18-20. Amen!
