I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, -Matthew 12:36 ESV
Words have power, they can build, or they can destroy. As Hawk Nelson put it: They’ve made me feel like a prisoner. They’ve made me feel set free. They’ve made me feel like a criminal, made me feel like a king. They’ve lifted my heart to places I’d never been, and they’ve dragged me down, back to where I began. Words can build you up, words can break you down- start a fire in your heart or put it out. We are called by the bible to be encouragers and to edify, to build up! “Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another” (Romans 14:19).
Leader, Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do. Pleasant words [are as] an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones. (1 Thessalonians 5:11, Proverbs 16:24) And God reminds us to, “Watch your words and hold your tongue; you’ll save yourself a lot of grief”. (Proverbs 21:23) God would never require us to do something without equipping us to do it. The mind is 6 times faster than we can talk. The only way we know what is going to come out of our mouth, is that we are actively in the NOW moment, hearing it in our head before it ever comes out of our mouth. Because what we think about, comes out in our words, through our thoughts. The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. (Luke 6:45)
Conduit, Commitment is defined as a willingness to give your time and energy to something that you believe in, or a promise or firm decision to do something. Are you willing to let go of your pound of flesh, your record of wrong and think good words and release words of life? Like a sponge when life squeezes us, the only thing that can come out of us, is what is in us! Our Thought life is the genesis for our words and our actions. That is why we need to put GOOD WORDS, GOOD NEWS into us, so when we open our mouth, the overflow of our heart are words of truth. Remember John tells us: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. Light and love came out of Jesus, for that is what HE thought about, prayed about and came about. When Jesus was squeezed by the cross and His creatures were mocking, belittling, shaming and crucifying Him, what came out of Him was LOVE, MERCY, GRACE, FORGIVENESS- because that is what is IN HIM, it is WHO HE IS. And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments. (Luke 23:34) Today I pray for you and for me that there be NO idle words that come from out thoughts or out of our mouths. Let our words be life, let our words be truth. Let us not say a word, unless it points back to Jesus and eternal salvation. We ask this in the name and the WORD of our risen King, Jesus. Amen.
