After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. So Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.” – John 6: 66-69 ESV
This is a question we all need to ask ourselves: Where do we go? For life’s struggles, disappointments, fears, doubts…answers- Where do we go? The people of Jesus day, where no different than the people of our day. They were working to put food on the table and security in the bank. They had needs, and fears and troubled times. They had the unfairness of life, the hardness of living and the let down of people who could help but choose not to help. “To whom shall we go?” Jesus gave us the answer earlier in the chapter, verses 48-51: I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”
Leader, Jesus wants ALL OF US. And yet, so many of us are preoccupied with how great He mad us that we think we are doing it. We start smelling ourselves, we start deciding we know best and we start deciding which of the scriptures are valid, or relevant and which ones, “Don’t really apply today”. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread[c] the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” Jesus was in high demand, he was healing, and feeding, and giving people what they needed to dwell on this earth. However, Jesus was, and is, always concerned first with the Spiritual, eternal needs versus the physical temporal needs- yet he meets both needs. Jesus knew what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you have such evil thoughts in your hearts? Is it easier to say ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up and walk’? So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!” And the man jumped up and went home! (Matthew 9:4-7) Just like God never changes, the nature of people- the flesh, sin nature, doesn’t change either, but we can have a change of Spirit, to be BORN AGAIN! Jesus told them a hard-word, that they must eat of his flesh and drink of His blood in order to enter the Kingdom and they didn’t want to hear that- so they left. Just like many today, leave, because they want God to evolve and become more progressive. However, God does NOT change! Malachi 3:6 states it emphatically: “For I the Lord do not change.
Conduit, WHERE DO YOU GO? We must realize that God is a JUST God, HE IS RIGHTEOUSNESS. GOD sees all, knows all, and is ALL POWERFUL. We must stop playing God and think we know best; GOD KNOWS WHAT IS BEST FOR US. He has seen the beginning and the end, HE knows ALL and HE is working ALL THINGS for HIS PURPOSE, and using people for HIS GLORY, and for their good. (Romans 8:28) For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. (1 Corinthians 2:10b-11) To make the point about God’s omniscience, Paul even asked the farcical question, What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God’s part? By no means! (Romans 9:14) This is the TRUE FAITH of the TRUE FOLLOWERS of Christ! Are you willing to trust God and HIS WORD, even when the world calls you hateful, bigoted, and close-minded for believing HIS WORD versus the WORD OF THE WORLD? Are you changing to fit the worlds standards or are you changing to be more like JESUS and the WORDS standard? Where do you go for life’s struggles, dilemmas, confusion and answers? If you are a WISE person, a CHILD OF THE RISEN KING, then there is only one place to go- the foot of the cross, to the grace and mercy of our SAVIOR. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
