“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine dresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. – John 1:1-5 ESV
What is the purpose of our creation? Why are you here, what is your purpose? The Bible tells us in Isaiah 43:7 and throughout, that we were created for God’s Glory. It brings Him Glory when we realize we manifest that glory through the fruit in our lives! We were created for Fruit, for GOOD WORKS, for GOD WORKS. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” (Genesis 12:8) For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10)
Leader, God is the Vine dresser, Jesus is the Vine, and we are the branches. The branches are naturally attached to the vine; from the vine they get their support, their ability to produce fruit, and their very life. God wants to produce fruit in our lives. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. (Galatians 5:22-24) That is the purpose of the vineyard—to produce “much fruit.” Good works follow salvation. If we are NOT OF GOD, and we are detached from the VINE we have NO LIFE! The purpose of branches is to PRODUCE FRUIT and if NOT, it is CUT OFF! Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and thing like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:19-21) Good works follows salvation!
Conduit, we cannot be saved by our good works, however we are saved FOR GOOD WORKS. When we are saved, we WILL produce good works. Just as a baby will grow after birth, so a believer will grow after the NEW BIRTH. We grow at different rates and in different ways, but a live birth results in growth. If a baby never grows, there is something very wrong. No one expects a baby to stay a baby forever. As it grows, the child begins to look more and more like his parents. In the same way, after salvation, we grow, and we begin to look more and more like our Heavenly Father. This is only possible as we “abide in Him” and allow Him to reproduce His character in us, Good works do not produce salvation. We are saved by GRACE alone, through FAITH ALONE, in CHRIST ALONE. However, good works are the product of salvation. Jesus said to His followers, “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). Let God be your guide and BE ABOUT your FATHERS BUSINESS: GOOD WORKS and GOOD NEWS- Good for you!
