In Susa the citadel itself the Jews killed and destroyed 500 men, and also killed Parshandatha and Dalphon and Aspatha and Poratha and Adalia and Aridatha and Parmashta and Arisai and Aridai and Vaizatha, the ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews, but they laid no hand on the plunder. And Esther said, “If it please the king, let the Jews who are in Susa be allowed tomorrow also to do according to this day’s edict. And let the ten sons of Haman be hanged on the gallows.”- Esther 9:6-10,13 ESV

The book of Esther never once mentions the name of God. For some that was reason to do everything they can to keep It out of the Canon, the Bible. The name Esther has the meaning, “Something hidden”. What an appropriate name for this book, as well as THE BOOK itself, the BIBLE. There is much hidden, and only the HOLY SPIRIT can illuminate and make known the things of God! Why would Esther have the 10 sons HANGED or Impaled on a TREE, when they were already dead?

Leader, in this story, Haman has been killed, and his ten sons with him, and the name of Amalek is blotted out forever, just as God has promised. (Ex 17:14) God always fulfills his promises, even if it takes 600 years! As we look at the names of the 10 sons of Haman; something is hidden-Each of the ten names, in the Persian language, contains the word “Self.” This reveals a little about Haman the EVIL, HE was stuck on himself. He named his ten sons after aspects of HIMSELF.

Conduit, here is what Esther had hung on a TREE after they were DEAD; Self curiosity moving away from God, self-pity, self-sufficient, self-indulgent, weak self, self-strong, pre-eminent self or ambitious self, bold-self, self-superior and self-righteous. What a powerful statement about how we are to DIE DAILY to our SELF, even when we think we have ALREADY been crucified to self! “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me.” (Luke 9:23) Only then can we truly LIVE: I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Amen!
