And God spoke all these words, saying, “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. “You shall have no other gods before me. -Exodus 20:1-3 ESV

Warrior;

Before God gave us the 10 commandments we had no understanding of SIN, nor the consequences of our rebellion against God. Dr. Irwin Lutzer in a great sermon said that God made this first statement about having no gods before Him because of the NATURE of GOD, the NATURE of man and the nature of IDOLATRY! God was in essence saying, “You shall have nothing that you shall elevate above me in your thinking, allegiance, fear, desire and imagination! In Psalm 103:14 we are told God knows our frame, He knows where we came from, where we are going, and He knows the DESIRES of our HEART!

Leader, logically we must understand that every person has a God. Your God is whatever you THINK about most often, Desire the most, Fear the most, focus on mostly- that is your GOD! You must understand two things about your God: First, every God demands allegiance and will dominate your life. Second, every DOMINATION means SLAVERY! The question whether posited or not, is: Whose SLAVE will you be? There is an eternity of difference between being a slave to the God of the universe; Yahweh, Jehovah, Adonai, El Shaddai, Elohim, ABBA, Father of the SON, Jesus- and being a slave to some idol.

Conduit, we are prone to put other things on our throne, to become slaves to idolatry because we don’t want GOD to rule over us. This drives us to assume control and make other things\people our God. The problem is that ALL GODS demand a sacrifice! Many people have made this world and their own personal accomplishments; gifts, talents, resources, BODY, Health, and SUCCESS- THEIR GOD and their ACCOMPLISHMENT. This is why JAMES in his epistle tells us to quit LYING to ourselves- you AINT DOING IT- Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights. (James 1:17) Paul puts it this way; For what gives you the right to make such a judgment? What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if everything you have is from God, why boast as though it were not a gift? (1 Cor 4:7). GET OFF GODS THRONE and read 1 Cor 4:9-13 to see OUR rightful place- to see IF GOD is on HIS THRONE in YOUR LIFE! “So the last will be first, and the first last.”
