But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brothers. And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven.  Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Christ.  The greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. – Matthew 23:8-12 ESV

As Jesus said many times while walking incarnate on this earth, “You have heard it said … but I say to you …” Jesus seeks to move us from simple, fear-based obedience to the law upward to a higher dimension of spiritual awareness. This higher dimension does not abolish the law, but rather fulfills it by allowing us to understand the spiritual Truth of which the law is a temporal expression.  Jesus is calling us to a higher level of spiritual awareness.  He wants us to know the power lies not only in what we do, but in what we think and believe- the power and the punishment are all about the HEART. Our thoughts have creative power; and if we linger lustfully on adulterous thoughts, we are creating a negative, adulterous energy in our lives just as if we had acted on those thoughts. We want, and DESIRE to claim, something that is not ours in consciousness because we have allowed another person to represent the love, or the need\want we lack and are seeking. Even if we don’t sexually commit adultery, those fear-based, separation-based negative thoughts are taking root in our consciousness and impacting our lives. At earlier levels of spiritual awareness, we might not grasp the power of our thoughts, so the law was lovingly designed to KEEP US from acting on negative thoughts. Jesus is calling us to recognize where the real power lies, and to realize that it is only by changing our thoughts that we can release fear, embrace the true Source of love!

Leader, In John 11 we see this same understanding in the death of Lazarus.  Martha understood the doctrine of resurrection. She believed her brother would rise again on the last day.  Jesus wept, not because Lazarus had died, but because Martha and Mary’s hope was in either Christ keeping Lazarus from dying or the doctrine of the resurrection!  But Jesus wants OUR HOPE and Mary and Martha’s hope in HIMSELF, in JESUS! He reminded her of the ONLY REAL HOPE; Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?” (John 11:25-26) Jesus IS THE TRUTH; He is ALL truth. He is the revelation from GOD and OF GOD. HE IS “I AM”. We are NOT changed by doctrine, we are changed by JESUS.  Whenever a truth or a doctrine becomes our focus, it will distract us from our proper focus- JESUS and HIS life-giving love!

Conduit, from the book “There were two trees in the Garden” by Rick Joyner He reminds us of Joshua and Moses. “In Exodus 33:8-11 we see Moses speaking to the Lord in the tent of meeting.  A pillar of cloud would descend, and the Lord would speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend.  It was such an awesome sight that all the people would arise and stand at the doorways of their tents to worship when this meeting took place. When Moses returned to the camp, Joshua (Moses personal servant at the time), would remain in the tent of meeting. Joshua was staying to develop his own personal relationship with the Lord. Being the most intimate associate of a ‘Man of God” was NOT enough for Joshua- He desired to know the LORD for himself.” How about you?  Are you believing your knowledge, or your church, or your family history, or your place on the board- is what you trust as far as your relationship to Jesus Christ?  Or do you hunger and thirst for a deeper, more personal, more intimate relationship with Jesus our redeemer?  Christ is the head of every man, see 1 Corinthians 11:3. The Leaders and pastors He uses in His church are NOT to take HIS PLACE; they are called to LEAD US TO HIM, not lead them to us!  Be like the moon and reflect the SON! It’s ALL about Jesus.
