Wait for the LORD; be strong and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD! – Psalm 27:14
This is HARD! One of the reasons it is so hard is because of where we sit in relation to time and where GOD is in relation to time! God sits above time, He sees it all- like watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade from high above the city. We sit IN TIME, we get wrapped up about time, and we get bogged down by time. God never WASTES time, like we do, HE USES IT, and all things, for HIS GLORY and for HIS FOLLOWERS GOOD- see Romans 8:28! The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)
Leader, God is playing ‘FATHER MAY I’, with those WILLING to FOLLOW! But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew [their] strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; [and] they shall walk, and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31) The command to wait on the Lord is all throughout the Old and New Testaments. In the Old Testament, it is more about waiting for the Lord’s providential care, but most New Testament references relate to Christ’s second coming. In all cases, it is about waiting expectantly and with hope. To WAIT ON THE LORD, we must KNOW GOD’s character and trust God’s character, God’s goodness. Do you KNOW the LORD?
Conduit, many of us struggle because of one of the world’s most famous Bible verses- which IS NOT in the Bible; ‘The Lord helps those who help themselves’! Many of us TRY to Wait, but our experience is like David in Psalm 69:3; I am exhausted from crying for help; my throat is parched. My eyes are swollen with weeping, waiting for my God to help me. To WAIT ON THE LORD is to rest in the confident assurance that, God never leaves us and never forsakes us- unlike people! As Moses told the panicky Israelites trapped at the Red Sea by Pharaoh’s army, “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still” (Exodus 14:14). This heavenly perspective comes as we FOCUS on the LORD, NOT on the trouble. When it seems that life has painted us into a corner, we have an opportunity to set aside our human viewpoint and wait upon the Lord to show us His Power, His Purpose, and His Salvation. We must DECREASE so He can INCREASE. In our weakness HIS STRENGTH is perfected! TRUST in the LORD with all your HEART and LEAN NOT on your own understanding! (Proverbs 3:5)
