To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. – Colossians 1:27 ESV
Here is one of the KEY EXISTENTIAL questions of our FAITH: What does it mean that Christ in us is the hope of glory? The apostle Paul is writing to believers in Jesus Christ. He calls them “the Lord’s people” in the previous verse (Colossians 1:26). The “Gentiles” are non-Jewish people. A “mystery” is something that was hidden in times past but has now been revealed by God. The former mystery, now understood, is that Christ in us is the hope of our future glory. HOPE is the purpose of JESUS CHRIST’s Incarnation, Crucifixion and Resurrection! When God’s chosen became STIFF NECKED and wouldn’t believe Jesus is the Messiah, it opened the door for those who were NOT, originally, of the SEED of ABRAHAM! Galatians 3:29 states: If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Leader, Paul is giving ENCOURAGEMENT, he is saying if we are NOT like the SHIFTING SANDS and changing our MINDS, if we are NOT like the ONES who WAVER, who DOUBT, who buy into the LIES OF THE WORLD- for THOSE are like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. (James 1:6) Paul is giving us an IF-THEN statement in Verses 21-23 of this chapter: IF indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard- you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds- Then He(JESUS) has now reconciled in HIS body of flesh by HIS death, in order to present YOU holy and blameless (RIGHTEOUS) and above reproach before HIM! (God Almighty) To the WORLD this is a mystery, it is foolish, but to those who believe IT IS OUR HOPE- the HOPE of HIS GLORY!
Conduit, Be assured that from the first day we heard of you, we haven’t stopped praying for you, asking God to give you wise minds and spirits attuned to his will, and so acquire a thorough understanding of the ways in which God works. We pray that you’ll live well for the Master, making him proud of you as you work hard in his orchard. As you learn more and more how God works, you will learn how to do your work. We pray that you’ll have the strength to stick it out over the long haul—not the grim strength of gritting your teeth but the glory-strength God gives. It is strength that endures the unendurable and spills over into joy, thanking the Father who makes us strong enough to take part in everything bright and beautiful that he has for us. God rescued us from dead-end alleys and dark dungeons. He’s set us up in the kingdom of the Son he loves so much, the Son who got us out of the pit we were in, got rid of the sins we were doomed to keep repeating. (Col 1:9-14 MSG) Today, keep HIS HOPE ALIVE in your HEART, Body, Soul and HANDS AND FEET!
