Hear my prayer, O LORD! And let my cry for help come to You. Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my distress; Incline Your ear to me; In the day when I call answer me quickly. For my days have been consumed in smoke, And my bones have been scorched like a hearth. My heart has been smitten like grass and has withered away, Indeed, I forget to eat my bread.  Because of the loudness of my groaning My bones cling to my flesh. I resemble a pelican of the wilderness; I have become like an owl of the wasted places. – Psalm 102:1-6 NASB

Are you lonely?  Do you feel like you DON’T fit in, like you don’t belong?  Good for you, because JESUS became INCARNATE, Emanuel walked in our TENT, He knew our struggles, and HE FELT LONELINESS- so you can become HIS!  He knows what you are going through- He has experienced it too!  Commentaries, tell us that these poetic verses express extreme loneliness! Ellicott’s Commentary says; “The expression ‘pelican in the wilderness,’ is the psalmist’s pitiable complaint- it is a true picture of the bird as it sits in apparently melancholy mood with its bill resting on its breast.”

Leader, the Prophet Isaiah in His vision, recorded in Isaiah 53 foretells the sufferings of Jesus. Is 53:3 tells us that Jesus knew what it was like to be lonely: “He was despised and rejected–a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care.” If you have ever felt like this Jesus knows what you are going through- He went through much worse! Then at three o’clock Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?” (Mark 15:34; Matthew 27:46). Not only was there no room in the inn for BABY JESUS, there was no place for the MESSIAH to rest: But Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.” (Luke 9:58)

Conduit, Jesus walked in our shoes, He understands our pain and loneliness! The difference was, HE did nothing to deserve it! For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Cor 5:21) Jesus REDEEMED us from our loneliness in this world!  “When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.” (Psalm 94:19) The Psalmist REMINDS us that even in rough or desperate situations, we can be filled with the joy of the Lord. He is our consolation and His Word eases anxiety like nothing else can. God can bring JOY to your soul even during times when you’re most anxious and LONELY by simply knowing that He’s present and trusting in His power! After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said in fulfillment of the Scripture, “I am thirsty.”  A jar full of sour wine was placed there; so they put a sponge soaked in the sour wine on [a branch of] hyssop and held it to His mouth. When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and [voluntarily] gave up His spirit. Jesus CHOSE to be LONELY so that you may never be FORSAKEN, that you can know you MATTER and so that you can spend eternity in the PRESENCE of LOVE- that is what we should LONG FOR-be LONELY FOR!  Jesus paid it all- if you accept HIS RESURRECTION- you will NEVER BE ALONE!
