And her mother-in-law said to her, “Where did you glean today? And where have you worked? Blessed be the man who took notice of you.” So she told her mother-in-law with whom she had worked and said, “The man’s name with whom I worked today is Boaz.” And Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, “May he be blessed by the LORD, whose kindness has not forsaken the living or the dead!” Naomi also said to her, “The man is a close relative of ours, one of our redeemers.”- Ruth 2:19-20 ESV

Warrior;

The kinsman-redeemer is a male relative who, according to various laws of the Old Testament, had the privilege-responsibility, to act on behalf of a relative who was in trouble, danger, or need. The Hebrew term (go el) for kinsman-redeemer designates one who delivers or rescues (Genesis 48:16; Exodus 6:6) or redeems property or person (Leviticus 27:9–25, 25:47–55). Boaz is a shadow of our REDEEMER, of our SAVIOR; CHRIST is the SUBSTANCE.

Leader, Yahweh is Israel’s Redeemer, the one who promises to defend and vindicate them. He is both Father and Deliverer (Ex 20:2). There are numerous appeals to God, in the OLD TESTAMENT- as rescuer of the weak and needy (Ps 82:4; Dan 6:27; Jer 20:13) and preserver of the sheep of Israel (Ez 34:10–12, 22). In the New Testament, Christ is an example of a kinsman-redeemer because, as our brother (Hebrews 2:11), He also redeems us because of our great need, one that only He can satisfy.

Conduit, there is great value in reading the OLD TESTAMENT -it gives us the SHADOW of the SUBSTANCE that came in the NEW TESTAMENT.  Jesus is everything!  He is ETERNAL, HE WAS and IS! He is our KINSMAN redeemer, HE is ISRAELS REDEEMER He is our WEDDING PARTNER, He is our CITY OF REFUGE!  The Mosaic Law stated that anyone who committed a murder was to be put to death. But for accidental deaths-Like an AXE HEAD flying off the handle and killing someone, God set aside these cities to which the murderer could flee for refuge (Ex 21:13). He would be safe from the avenger until it could be adjudicated. The congregation would judge to find if the attacker acted unintentionally. If he did, he would return to the city of refuge and live there safely until the death of the high priest who was in office at the time of the trial, at which point he could return to his property. By reading the OLD testament, we see a need for CHRIST and we see the SHADOW of HIS GLORY and PURPOSE.  Seek after JESUS and understand HIM in the OLD and the NEW Covenants!

  1. This is a great observation of both the law of God and the plan of salvation being used to train us up in God’s Love. We are called to be helpers one of another, esteeming others better than ourselves. But I also like the way you draw attention to the City of Refuge. A place of protection from an assailant seeking retribution. We have both a responsibility to protect and serve those who are in need. But more importantly, those who are in Christ. Keep the faith. Shalom
