Give ear, O my people, to my teaching; incline your ears to the words of my mouth! I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings from of old, things that we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done. – Psalm 78: 1-4 ESV

Warrior;

All throughout the OLD TESTAMENT, there is prophecy and shadows, and foretelling and forerunners. Chuck Missler’s quote on the Bible rings true and it rings loud! “The great discovery is that the Bible is a message system: it’s not simply 66 books penned by 40 authors over thousands of years, the Bible is an integrated whole which bears evidence of supernatural engineering in every detail.” The Old Testament was about a redeemer, the Messiah, about Jesus- It was to tell us about God, to show us the need for a Savior and to tell us about the coming Savior, His Name, His Purpose, His Way of Life, His Way of Death, what He would do and how He would do it! The Old and the New Testament should be looked at like the 1st half and the 2nd half of a great play, a great drama, a great romance: God’s love for Man and His pursuit of His Bride. It is about God’s actions to acquire, solidify and consummate the GREAT LOVE STORY! Many people in Jesus’ day erred in their thinking about how the Messiah would show up, what He would do and How the Kingdom of God would manifest itself. Many thought that Jesus would change everything. He would get rid of the OLD and bring about the NEW, However- as always is the case- we got it wrong! Saint Matthew recalls what Jesus told the crowds at the most powerful sermon ever preached, “Think not that I have come to destroy the Torah and the prophets; I have not come to destroy but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” (Matthew 5:17-18)

Leader, it was foretold that the Messiah would teach in Parables. As with ALL THINGS, our God is a God of Purpose. He has multiple reasons for everything He does. Our God is the OMNI God; Omniscient, Omnipresent, Omnipotent and Omni purposed! OMNI= ALL. I believe this is one of the reasons why Jesus taught in Parables. Stories, parables, analogies, Metaphors all allow for multiple meanings and understandings. Even those closest to Jesus wanted to know why the Parables, why use such colorful language patterns that allow people to derive ALL different types of meanings? Jesus’ disciples, His Apostles, and many today want to know why Jesus talked in Parables? Well, one of the reasons was because it was Prophesied that He would- so He did this in fulfillment of the scriptures. Got Questions dot org states the following: A parable is, literally, something “cast alongside” something else. Jesus’ parables were stories that were “cast alongside” a truth in order to illustrate that truth. His parables were teaching aids and can be thought of as extended analogies or inspired comparisons. A common description of a parable is that it is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning. For a time in His ministry, Jesus relied heavily on parables. He told many of them; in fact, according to Mark 4:34a, “He did not say anything to them without using a parable.” There are about 35 of Jesus’ parables recorded in the Synoptic Gospels. It had not always been that way. In the early part of His ministry, Jesus had not used parables. Suddenly, He begins telling parables exclusively, much to the surprise of His disciples, who asked Him, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?” (Matthew 13:10).

Conduit, “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ. (1 Corinthians 2:16, see also Romans 11:34) We do not know exactly ALL the purposes of God, but we can speculate and offer some educated reasons for some of God’s divine purposes. In the 2 verses listed, above, it shows us one reason for the parables, it puts us into a pattern that CREATES in us, THE MIND OF CHRIST. Some other possibilities: To keep His enemies off balance. The enemies of Jesus were always waiting for him to say something they could use against him (Luke 11:53-54). By speaking in parables, Jesus made it extremely hard for them. It would seem unjust to arrest Him for telling stories! To Enlighten the True Hearted; Jesus took advantage of occasions when multitudes flocked to hear him speak. Through the parables he could enlighten those whose hearts were sincere and receptive and who were hungering and thirsting for righteousness (Matthew 5:6). To Make People Think; Jesus knew that not everybody would understand or give proper thought to his parables. Some people tune their hearts and ears to God’s word, whilst others deliberately block their ears to God’s voice. Yet others neither tune nor block their ears —Jesus told parables to challenge people, to test their hearts. To Divide into Two; After telling the parable of the ‘Sower and the seed’, Jesus was asked by his disciples the question, “Why do you speak to them in parables?” (Matthew 13:10). Jesus answered by quoting Isaiah, concerning people who have eyes but do not see, and have ears but do not hear (Matthew 13:11-17, Isaiah 6:8-10). In telling the parables, Jesus was bringing pressure to bear upon his listeners, to either open their spiritual eyes and ears and be enlightened, or to shut their eyes and ears tighter and be condemned. Parables not only make people think, but they also make people choose. They bring people out of the grey area into the clearly black or white. The parables were a winnowing fork for Jesus, by which he was able to separate the wheat from the chaff. Lastly I believe part of the OMNI-PURPOSES for Jesus talking in Parables goes to the analogy of US, HIS CHURCH, being His Bride. In any amorous relationship, there is a seeking to know the deep things of the heart, mind, and spirit. It is a deep desire to know thy lover, deeper, a fuller intimacy and connection. Just like when a man courts a woman, he seeks out the inner workings of their heart and mind to connect and establish an intimate rapport. “This is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent” (John 17:3). Do you hunger and thirst to know the heart and mind of God? Do you seek to KNOW HIM and make HIM KNOWN? God wants you to want Him and to search His Word, and in the process you will know His Way, His Will, and His Word! This TRUTH will set you free and give you GREAT FAITH and GREAT LOVE!

Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect. -1 Peter 3:13-15 ESV

Warrior;

No matter what is going on in the world, we are to be Holy as God is Holy. Holy and sanctified are synonymous. To sanctify something is to set it apart for God’s special use and purpose, to make holy similarly is to separate from the world and consecrate to God. Sanctification, and Holy is a matter of separation from the world by learning, and adopting, a different standard—God’s standard. Jesus spoke of Himself as being sanctified in John 17:19; in other words, He is holy and “set apart” from sin. His followers are to be similarly set apart from sin and for God’s use, for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:16). When we understand the Bible, and the WORDS in the Bible it helps our FAITH, it gives us HOPE. Again Faith and Hope, 2 words used throughout the Bible, are very closely related. Today, let us focus on verse 15, and the part of the verse that many have heard, many times; Always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the HOPE that is in you. The Gospel is called the GOOD NEWS, because it gives us HOPE when all around us are HOPELESS, or are HOPING for the World and man to get better! However if you read THE WORD, the World and Man, do NOT GET BETTER, they get worse and chaos increases as the ‘Time of the Gentiles’ comes to a close, but as followers of Jesus Christ we are to be a LIGHT in the DARKNESS. We are to bring CLARITY to the CONFUSION, HOPE to a HOPELESS WORLD! Our Hope is not in Biden, or in Trump. It is not in a vaccine or in Herd Immunity! If we don’t know where our HOPE IS, then how can we tell others where our HOPE LIES?

Leader, Dec 19, 1996 ‘Our Daily Bread’ states: ‘The English poet Alexander Pope wrote, “Hope springs eternal in the human breast: Man never is, but always to be blest.” But where does man turn when hope dries up? The director of a medical clinic told of a terminally ill young man who came in for his usual treatment. A new doctor who was on duty said to him casually and cruelly, “You know, don’t you, that you won’t live out the year?” As the young man left, he stopped by the director’s desk and wept. “That man took away my hope,” he blurted out. “I guess he did,” replied the director. “Maybe it’s time to find a new one.” Commenting on this incident, Lewis Smedes wrote, “Is there a hope when hope is taken away? Is there hope when the situation is hopeless? That question leads us to Christian hope, for in the Bible, hope is no longer a passion for the possible. It becomes a passion for the promise.” This is why we must know the WORD of God and know HIS PROMISES, to know HIM is to have HOPE, to know HIS WORD is to have HOPE in the confusion. This is why we can truly only be effective on this ‘rescue mission’, we can only be ‘soul winners’ if we have HOPE! The GOOD NEWS of JESUS CHRIST and His ministry of reconciliation is the REASON for the HOPE THAT WE HAVE! Even God tells us that we can not please him without this HOPE, because HOPE and FAITH go hand in hand! And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who approaches Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. (Hebrews 1:6)

Conduit, the FAITH HALL OF FAME in Hebrews 11 starts by defining FAITH, and here God ties FAITH to HOPE! Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Faith, Hope, and love are B.S.- Belief Systems. These three are closely tied together and they are important in the life of a true believer…God even tells us in1 Corinthians 13:13 of the value of these 3; And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. HOPE is defined as: to cherish a desire with anticipation, to desire with expectation of obtainment or fulfillment, desire accompanied by expectation of or belief in fulfillment, and lastly hope is defined as, to expect with confidence! That last definition is also a plausible definition of FAITH- to expect with confidence! In today’s ever darkening America we must KNOW HIS WORD. Many people identify as “Christians”, little Christs, followers of the Risen King, yet they know NOT His WORD, HIS WAY nor HIS WILL! Many Christians are hoping that Joe Biden can do this, and that the vaccine can do that, or that the economy might do this- they have their HOPE in things of this world and in the ways of man. We are to rejoice and grieve based on those things that bring Joy and Grief to our Father, who art in heaven, not on the things of the world. But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. (1 Thessalonians 4:13) Today, be DIFFERENT, be SET APART and BE HOPEFUL. So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18) Be Hopeful, be HOLY, be READY! Amen.

June 1. 2021

As he was drawing near—already on the way down the Mount of Olives—the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.” – Luke 19:37-40 ESV

Warrior;
Our God is the GOD of PURPOSE. Everything He does, or allows to be done, is done in the name of PURPISIVE STRIVING! Our God is a GOD OF ORDER! And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28) God has one acceptable place, and ONE ONLY- our FIRST LOVE- our MAIN SQUEEZE. All throughout the Bible, especially IN THE BEGINNING, we read- He is a jealous God: see Exodus 34:14, Deuteronomy 4:23-24, 32:16, Joshua 24:19, Psalms 78:58, 79:5. The prophets were sent to Jerusalem, and they were silenced, John the Baptist was silenced, even Jesus was silenced- AND THE ROCKS- the Walls of Jerusalem CRY OUT with the story of the Gospel. Just like an object of our desire for our flesh- a lover, wants to be sought, and pursued- our God wants the same thing! He has hidden NUGGETS of joy and understanding, if we DESIRE HIM ENOUGH- to search HIS WORD!

Leader, in the book of Nehemiah 3rd Chapter, Nehemiah, a business man, not a priest or a member of the priestly line, was called to go and ‘rebuild’ the walls of Jerusalem. In the 3rd chapter, we are taken through the 10 gates of Jerusalem and in them you will find a hidden message about our redemption and reconciliation to God- we must look into the text: He starts at the SHEEP Gate and he ends at the SHEEP gate, because this gate represents the CROSS of Christ- He always entered through the sheep gate, that is where all the sacrifices entered, and all those condemned to die departed from. The Good news of the Gospel BEGINS and ENDS with JESUS and the cross. Jesus always entered through the sheep gate except this one time, of the Triumphal entry, and He Entered through the EAST gate, which is the gate that is opened at the break of dawn, with the rising of the MORNING SUN. Then there was the FISH GATE, for we are called to be fishers on men (Matt 4:19). Then we have the OLD gate, because nothing is NEW, and we are called to GO BACK TO THE BEGINNING, the basics- Keep it Simple Soldier! See Jeremiah 6:16.

Conduit, After the OLD GATE, we find the VALLEY GATE- this is the place of humility, we are called through the valley, to grow into Christ’s likeness, so we can eventually get to the mountain of God. We then have the DUNG gate, where we must get rid of all the trash, the stuff that smells, that makes us impure. Which takes us to the FOUNTAIN gate, which is about the HOLY SPIRIT; see John 7:37-39, and the woman at the well (John 4). Then we have the WATER gate, which represents the word of God- for we are to be washed by the word! (Ephesians 5:26, John 15:3 with Peter and washing of his feet). The WATER gate was the only ONE NOT destroyed- we need to ADD nothing; we need NO REPAIR of the WORD OF GOD- it is perfect, it never changes! We then come to the HORSE gate, which is a picture of POWER of WARFARE- for we are called to put on the WHOLE ARMOR of God and fight the good fight of SALVATION. (Ephesians 6:10-17) We then find the EAST gate, the one that is opened upon the RISING OF THE SON. We end with the MIPHKAD gate- the word means REVIEW, or REGISTER. This is the gate where you would register as a stranger to enter the city, and King David would review HIS TROOPS as the returned from battle! Warrior, there is so much hidden in HIS WORD, and it is our PLEASURE to seek HIS MYSTERY: the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to his saints. (Col 1:26) Seek His WORD and HIS HEART, for the answer to this question asked of JOB is YES- if you DESIRE: “Can you find out the deep things of God? Can you find out the limit of the Almighty? (Job 33:13)

May 31. 2021

Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.” And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of man had built. And the LORD said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so that they may not understand one another’s speech.” So the LORD dispersed them from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city. Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth. And from there the LORD dispersed them over the face of all the earth. –Gen 11:4-9 ESV

Warrior;
Genesis is the first book in the Old Testament, it is the BEGINNING book of the BIBLE- God’s WORD! It is the Launch PAD of God’s STORY: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Gen 1:1) Genesis is a Greek word for “beginning”. In Genesis, we see the BEGINNING of Creation, the beginning of our introduction to God. It is the book of BEGINNINGS! In the book of Genesis we find the beginning of man, the beginning of sin, the beginning of disappointment, the beginning of Israel, the beginning of the plan of redemption and the BEGINNING OF RELIGION- man’s attempt to build a TOWER TO GOD, the beginning of PRIDE and man’s attempt to be GOOD ENOUGH for GOD! And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar. Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves. (Gen 11:3, 4a) The BEGINNING of RELIGION!

Leader, God sits above time, He is NOT constrained by the dimension of time and its limitations! We sit IN TIME, where God sits above time. God is OMNISCIENT and IMMUTABLE, this means that God CANNOT learn. God is the GREAT KNOW IT ALL! He cannot know more today, then He knew yesterday or He would cease to be GOD! I believe this is HOW we have things NAMED for the way they turn out or show up. The word Israel means to WRESTLE WITH GOD! The original meaning of the word BABEL, was, “Gate to Heaven” but it came to mean CONFUSION! Man was rebuilding, POST FLOOD, and man was working to do the GROUND work to CONNECT with GOD; religion. I have heard it said that the first King of Babylon, NIMROD, was building a tower to GOD to confront him about his decision to end the world with the FLOOD. Man believing HE was ON PAR with God, HIS PRIDE, HIS STRENGTH, HIS GLORY, HIS ABILITY- this is what we call RELIGION! However the book is about REDEMPTION and GOD’s plan to build a RELATIONSHIP with man- HIS MINISTRY OF RECONCILIATION!

Conduit, CHRISTIANITY is a RELATIONSHIP with GOD. It is understanding that we can’t BE GOOD ENOUGH, and we CAN”T BUILD a TOWER to GOD, for HE HAS ALREADY built a BRIDGE to HIMSELF, in the PERSON of JESUS! For He is the ONLY WAY to GOD the FATHER! Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.(John 14:6) Religion is always about MAN attempting to FIND THE GATE TO HEAVEN, but when man attempts to be the BUILDER, then CONFUSION is the SPIRIT that we are following! Man is attempting to find the GATE TO HEAVEN: if I wear the RIGHT clothes, or say the RIGHT things, or DO ENOUGH STUFF, then I WILL be the builder of the CONNECTION to GOD- I will FIND the GATE TO HEAVEN! Christianity is about realizing HE IS THE GATE and HE HAS done the planning and the construction- IT IS FINISHED! (John 19:30) In the BEGINNING GOD- the CREATOR of the HEAVENS and EARTH- GOD BEGAN, PROVIDED for and COMPLETED the process of connecting a HOLY GOD to an UNHOLY creature, MAN! The GATE to HEAVEN was GIVEN, there is no need to be CONFUSED and to attempt to BUILD your TOWER TO HEAVEN! In John’s Gospel, the apostle quotes GOD INCARNATE, “Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved. (John 10:9) Quit building your GOOD WORKS and start BUILDING your RELATIONSHIP with JESUS- the GATE TO HEAVEN! “Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. (John 10:1-3) TODAY, BUILD that relationship and know IT IS FINISHED- He paid the bill- PAID IN FULL!

May 30. 2021

By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us.- 1 John 4:13-16a ESV

Warrior;
What an important message; BY THIS WE KNOW…. Can you make that statement? By what do you sustain your faith? I believe the biggest problem facing the Church is the lack of Biblical understanding through study, reading and focus. I asked someone the other day if she was a Christian and she quickly responded, YES. Immediately I asked her if she believes in the Bible, she hesitated and had a weak, “NOT SURE” answer. That is the problem in America today, in the church today; People don’t believe the BIBLE IS THE WORD OF GOD, because they have an EASY BELIEVISM. We are told to have a reason for the HOPE THAT WE HAVE. (1 Peter 3:15) Because He has given us HIS SPIRIT, ‘AND’…. A conjunction ties 2 things together; AND, we have seen and testify that the Father has sent His Son to be the Savior of the world. John and Peter walked with Christ, so they were able to SEE AND TESTIFY. This is what the Bible does to the believer today; it allows us to see and testify. Understanding the Bible gives us the confidence to BELIEVE. When we TRULY believe, then we ACT AS IF, it is real, and then the Bible becomes, transformational. The Bible is 66 books, written by 40 authors that covers approximately 1500 years. Most of the writers were unaware of the other writers. A few knew each other, and a few were familiar with some of those that came before them. However, COLLUSION would be impossible due to multiple reasons. Yet its continuity is breathtaking, and its accuracy is miraculous. The Bible is a MAN\GOD book just like JESUS was fully Man and fully God. Jesus was NOT half man and half God- He is FULLY man and fully God. The Bible is the same, since Jesus is the Word, and The Word is the Bible; a God\Man book. It was written by MAN, DICTATED by GOD, the HOLY SPIRIT!

Leader, J Vernon McGee talked about reasons for people to believe that the Bible is the Word of God because of PROPHECY. A prophecy is a message inspired by God, a divine revelation. It is a future occurrence. It is future telling, from the HOLY SPIRIT. McGee stated: “If I were asked today if I had just one thing to suggest that would be a conclusive proof that the Bible is the Word of God, do you know what I would suggest? I would suggest – fulfilled prophecy. Fulfilled prophecy is the one proof that you can’t escape, you can’t get around. And the Bible is filled with fulfilled prophecy. One-fourth of the Scripture, when it was written, was prophetic; that is, it announced things that were to take place in the future. by Jesus in His first coming, it is clearly proven that the Bible is the Word of God. “ John 1:14 tells us: The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. Are you reading this? WE HAVE SEEN…this is the irreplaceable value of the BIBLE! The BIBLE became FLESH and DWELT among us. By studying, reading and knowing the BIBLE, it is similar to what the Apostles experienced when they walked with Jesus. However the Apostles only had 3 years with Him- we have decades to be with Him, by studying, knowing and sharing HIS WORD, the Bible! Just like Jesus was fully man and fully God, the Bible has a DUAL authorship. It has God, the Holy Spirit as the author and it was written through MEN.

Conduit, McGee continues, “Let me show you that, according to the mathematical law of problematic conjecture, man could never, never prophesy. Suppose that right now I would make a prophecy. Just by way of illustration, suppose I’d say that wherever you are it’s going to rain tomorrow. I’d have a 50 percent chance of being right because it’ll do one of the two. For some of you it would probably be accurate. For others it would not. But suppose that I add to that and say it would start raining tomorrow morning at nine o’clock. That would be another uncertain element. I had a fifty-fifty chance of being right at first; now I have a 25 percent chance. Every uncertain element that is added reduces by 50 percent the chance of my being right–the law of problematical conjecture. Now suppose that I not only say that it’s going to start raining at nine o’clock, but I also say it’ll stop raining at two o’clock. Well, believe me, friend, that has reduced my chances now another 50 percent which brings it down to 12 percent. Can you imagine my chance of being right now? But suppose I add three hundred uncertain elements. There’s not a ghost of a chance of being accurate. I just couldn’t hit it–it would be impossible. Yet the Word of God hit it, my friend. It is accurate. The Bible has moved into that area of absolute impossibility, and that to me is absolute proof that it is the Word of God. There is nothing to compare to it at all.” 300-400 prophecies about the Messiah’s FIRST COMING were fulfilled in the INCARNATE JESUS! Why does this matter, because the Bible not only foretold Jesus’ first coming and the work of His church after His resurrection, but it also tells us of HIS SECOND COMING and about the struggles and troubles the world will go through. If the Bible hit a bullseye on Jesus’ first advent, then we need to study it to understand the TIMES we are in today. Robert D. Hales said, “Before that sacred night in Bethlehem, the events of history and the words of the prophets of all dispensations prepared the way for the first coming of the Lord and His Atonement. … Do we have eyes to see that the events and prophecies of our time are preparing us for the Savior’s Second Coming?” Study your Bible, read it daily, listen to it daily, consider it daily. “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons. (2 Timothy 4:3-4,1 Timothy 4:1) In the military I learned the 6 P’s of Preparation: Proper preparation prevents piss poor performance. Your Bible is the instruction manual for these FINAL DAYS! Read it, Study it, Meditate on it- KNOW IT and KNOW JESUS!

May 29. 2021

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. – 1 John 1:5-7 ESV

Warrior;
The apostle John, in the Epistle of John refers to one of the disciples as, “The disciple Jesus loved”. It is almost unanimous that John, himself, was the disciple, “whom Jesus loved”. It seems that John had a closer relationship with Jesus than any of the other disciples. Jesus and John were essentially “best friends.” Jesus entrusted John with the care of His mother, gave John the vision of the transfiguration, allowed John to witness His most amazing miracles, and later gave John the Book of Revelation. Church history tells us that the apostle John lived into the A.D. 90s and was the last surviving apostle. The Gospels of Mark, Matthew and Luke are remarkably similar, not only in the outline of the narratives but also the nature and content of the teachings including the style, the language, and the vocabulary. Therefore the first three Gospels are called Synoptic gospels because they can be viewed side by side. The word Synoptic is derived from the Greek word ‘Synptikos’ which really means ‘seeing with’ in other words ‘ seeing the whole together’. However, I have heard that as high as 90% of the gospel of John is not in the other three. The big question is why? Why would John have written a record of Jesus’ life that is so different from the other three Gospels? What if it was because He had a more intimate relationship with Jesus?

Leader, “Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved”. (John 13:23) This picture of John laying his head on Jesus, while sitting at the table for the Last Supper, intimacy. John knew Jesus well. That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life. (1 John 1:1) That intimate knowledge is in this epistle and it is “God is LIGHT, GOD is LOVE and GOD IS LIFE.” The epistle of 1st John can be divided three-fold; Light is mentioned 16 times in the first chapter leading into the next, Love 33 times in 2nd chapter, going into the 3rd ( 44 times total) and God is LIFE- John knew that Jesus is life, and he mentioned it redundantly. In John 10:27–28 Jesus states that: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish.” This refers to the personal, heart to heart relationship the Christian is expected to have with Jesus. Notice John had a real relationship with Jesus; he heard, he saw, he beheld, he touched- John called Him the WORD (logos) of LIFE! Do you know Jesus like this, or is he some historical figure from the past? Is Jesus like Abraham Lincoln to you? Some famous guy who lived long ago and you now read about? God is calling us all to be like JOHN, to have an intimate relationship with Him, through His Son, Jesus the Christ.

Conduit, in order to have that intimate, loving relationship with Jeus we have to REMOVE that which hinders us. Ephesians 4:31, NIV: “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.” The ESV says, “Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.” Anger or wrath is an intense emotional state. It involves a strong, uncomfortable, and hostile response to a perceived provocation, hurt or threat. We have to choose our FRUIT, and that fruit is dependent on what you are engrafted into? Are you engrafted into the Prince of this world, or are you part of the VINE which then allows you to produce Fruit of the Spirit? You can tell WHOSE you are by your fruit. Fruit of the Spirit or Fruit of the flesh? Fruit of the Spirit is Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control. Fruit of the world\Flesh is Hate\Indifference, Despair, Anxiety, Impatience, Rudeness, Evil, Unreliable, Abrasive\Harsh and undisciplined. Are you believing the WORLD and that one group of people are more evil than others? That the color of one’s skin, makes someone worse, or better than another? Is that fruit of the Spirit or fruit of the World? Does the trauma and drama of today make you more like Jesus? Or is the unfairness of life, the hardness of how sin destroys relationships in our hearts, in our families, in our communities and in our churches- is that making you more like earth dwellers? Are you doing the bidding of the world, or are you about your Fathers business, like Jesus? You might want to look at your proximity and intimacy with Jesus if you are marching to the beat of the world. Repent, CONFESS and TAKE A KNEE (Romans 14:11) – not for the world’s causes- but for the LOVE, LIGHT and LIFE of JESUS!

Today on Like It Matters Radio Mr. Black will be addressing Values and how those values affect everything we do.  Values are defined as a person’s principles or standards of behavior; one’s judgment of what is important in life: Everything we do, or do not do, is driven by a belief system. Just like with everything else, we have a hierarchy in relation to our beliefs, and our Values are one of the most highly cherished, and highly reinforced, of those Beliefs! It is when our Core Values, our Core Beliefs are compromised or attacked, that many feel the need to take action in a remedial fashion. Tune into Like It Matters Radio, for an hour of power, as Mr. Black is joined by Minnesota Gubernatorial candidate Mike Marti as they discuss, The Elected Values.

But David said to Saul, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” – 1 Samuel 17:34-37 NIV

Warrior;
This is one of the most famous Bible stories. It is taught to our children when they are young. Yet, when we get older we tend to forget this great story. What makes this story great is the difference between the young boy, David, and his GIANT FOE, Goliath! In our familiarity with this story, we tend to forget important details. In our familiarity with this story we tend to make it more of a legend, than actual, factual history. This is a TRUE historical event, this was a true battle, and this has lessons for us, not just for VBS, Vacation Bible School, but for our ADULT lives as well. Especially in today’s America which has become like the land of the Philistines. Some of the most popular and enduring stories involve an underdog who overcomes great obstacles and secures victory against the odds. One of the most famous of such stories is the triumph of David—the young Israelite shepherd—against the battle-hardened Philistine war machine, the nine-foot-nine Goliath of Gath. Because this story has become a metaphor for dealing with the GIANTS in our lives, we can tend to forget the REALITY that this was a real event, and the reality that today we face REAL GIANTS in a Country that is no longer friendly to those who choose to follow the God of the Bible. We now live in a land, similar to Philistia, where believing the WORD OF THE LORD, the Bible, is not only uncommon, but also, considered silly, ignorant and along the lines of believing in fairy tales.

Leader, there are rules of war. It sounds weird to people, but like most things in life there are rules and there are criteria established. To see these 10 rules, goto: https://www.icrc.org/en/document/10-things-rules-of-war-Geneva-Conventions#. In the days of antiquity, war was not as sophisticated as it is today. Soldiers would line up with swords and march forward and kill each other. Usually those at the front of the lines, were killed, those that came later, had a better chance of survival. As a matter of fact, it is this brutal nature of war, and its understanding, that led an older, King David, to have his loyal general Uriah, killed to cover up his sin of adultery with Uriah’s wife Bathsheba. The next morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it with Uriah. In the letter he wrote: “Put Uriah at the front of the fiercest battle; then withdraw from him, so that he may be struck down and killed.” (2 Samuel 11:14-15) In order to preserve their soldiers and to minimize the loss in war, warring factions could come to an agreement that each side would take their best soldier and send them out to battle. The victor in this battle would decide which faction won the battle. They would come to an agreement and whoever won the battle, their side would be victorious, and the other side would assume defeat. “Goliath stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, “Why do you come out and line up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not the servants of Saul? Choose a man and have him come down to me. If he is able to fight and kill me, we will become your subjects; but if I overcome him and kill him, you will become our subjects and serve us.” (1 Samuel 17:8-9) This is what is happening between the Philistine Army and the Israeli army. What the Israeli’s lacked was FAITH. Faith requires a gap. The gap is the distance between what the LORD tell us and what we feel, see, or hear in our flesh. God is looking for people of GREAT FAITH. The greater the gap, the greater the faith!

Conduit, when David- just a boy, was sent by his Father, Jesse, to bring bread to his brothers in the battle, David heard this “uncircumcised philistine’ insulting the God of Israel, he would have none of it. How about you? Do you ever tire of the world insulting our Jesus and our WORD? What are you doing about it? The Israelites were afraid of the GIANT GOLIATH. Scripture says they hid in caves and under rocks. King Saul upped the ante for anyone brave enough to fight Goliath, eventually offering his daughter as bride, no taxes for life and a seat at the king’s table- still no takers. For what good is it to gain the whole world, but lose your LIFE? Hearing the Philistine insult Jehovah, David would have none of it. He would stand up for God and to the GIANT, GOLIATH. David was so small he could not even wear armor, for he attempted to put on Saul’s armor, and it was too big. David without armor, without training in combat and without the maturity to be afraid approached his enemy, and the nemesis of his God with confidence and with REMEMBRANCE of God’s past performance in his life. When He finally got in front of his foe, he was mocked openly, to his face! Meanwhile, the Philistine, with his shield bearer in front of him, kept coming closer to David. He looked David over and saw that he was little more than a boy, glowing with health and handsome, and he despised him. He said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. “Come here,” he said, “and I’ll give your flesh to the birds and the wild animals!” (1 Samuel 17:41-44) David had everything possible going against him, and yet he was successful because David had the one weapon that He needed; a Belief System that REMEMBERED what God had done for him. David knew the WORD OF THE LORD, and the WAY OF THE LORD. David remembered that God has rescued him from the lion and the bear, and believed that He would rescue him again. This is the lesson of David and Goliath. As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground. (ibid v 48-49) Read 1 Samuel 17 and be reminded of the power of our BELIEF SYSTEM and our MEMORY. The Bible tells us it is IMPOSSIBLE to please God without Faith. Faith is B.S. (Belief System). This is the only way to wage a proper spiritual battle, we must BELIEVE ON HIM WHO SENT US, and REMEMBER all that Yahweh has done in the past for us, and for other warriors of God! It is this combination of weapons that allows us to defeat our giants like GOLIATH, and our virus’ like CORONA! Believe that the BATTLE IS THE LORDS, and we fight from VICTORY, not for! (2 Tim 1:7) for God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
