Come,” they said, “let us build for ourselves a city with a tower that reaches to the heavens, that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of all the earth.” Then the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the sons of men were building. And the LORD said, “If they have begun to do this as one people speaking the same language, then nothing they devise will be beyond them. Come, let Us go down and confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.” So the LORD scattered them from there over the face of all the earth, and they stopped building the city.  That is why it is called Babel, for there the LORD confused the language of the whole world, and from that place the LORD scattered them over the face of all the earth. —Genesis 11:4-9 BSB

Warrior;

This is big, this event is overlooked, missed. God disinherited the nations and put other angelic beings in charge of the 70 nations. Elohim when ‘capitalized’ is God’s name.  When elohim is ‘small case’ it is “gods”- angelic beings. See Psalm 82. The book of Deuteronomy is called the second law, it is a book of remembrance- it was the favorite book of Jesus to quote.  In the 32nd chapter verses 8 and 9, Moses tells us what happened at the Tower of Babel- because we missed it.  Hear the Word of the Lord; When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance, when He divided the sons of man, He set the boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the sons of God. But the LORD’s portion is His people, Jacob His allotted inheritance. Moses is telling us that God again, washed his hands of the people. Remember in Genesis 6 when God flooded the earth killing most life, and all human life minus the 8 in the ark, Noah and his family. So how long ago was the flood, compared to this time in the Shinar desert? It is posited that there were 339 years between when Noah and his family left the ark, and the Tower of Babel was destroyed.  It has also been posited that approximately 100 years passed between the ark resting and the building of the Tower of Babel.  What most people don’t consider is that the Towel of Babel was another judgement against man- just like the expulsion from the garden of Eden in Genesis 3, and the destruction of mankind in Genesis 6. The story of the Tower of Babel can be interpreted as a judgment from God on humanity for their pride and ambition. They were told to go forth and populate the Earth, but they wanted to stay and MAKE A NAME FOR THEMSELVES, strength in numbers.  They were again rebelling against God- and the leader of the rebellion was NIMROD. The Babylonian Talmud states that Nimrod stirred up the whole world to rebel against God’s sovereignty. The people in Shinar (Babylon) decided to build a city and a tower “whose top may reach to heaven” to make a name for themselves and prevent being scattered.

Leader, we are wicked!  The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? According to researcher, Leisa Baysinger; The Tower of Babel was built in stages. During the seventh stage a shrine was built to Marduk. The people of the area had made a deity out of Nimrod and his wife, and he was deified as Marduk. This same pagan deity transferred over into numerous cultures and the name was changed accordingly. The tower was a ziggurat like other ancient pyramids to worship pagan deities. This one was to worship Marduk which was a Babylonian god and a deified Nimrod. Research indicates that “babel” not only means confusion but in the Babylonian language it means “gate of the gods”. Scripture indicates that they built the tower to make a name for themselves. Jewish Historian Josephus states of Nimrod: “He said he would be revenged on God, if he should have a mind to drown the world again; for that he would build a tower too high for the waters to be able to reach, and that he would avenge himself on God for destroying their forefathers” (Ant.1:,v2). In Genesis 10:9 the phrase “before” the Lord is paniym which means “face”. The word means “in defiance of God” or in the “face of God. The Targums and Josephus attest to “opponent of God” – just like Cain. The name Nimrod means “rebel, rebellion, or the valiant”. This is why he is denoted as a “mighty warrior” (Gen. 10:8-9). He was a tyrant. A tyrant who stood against the face of God. God was not happy!  God saw their ambition and pride as a challenge to His authority and a refusal to fulfill his command to “fill the earth”.  God DISINHERITED the 70 nations, and in Genesis 12 He will call out Abram out of Mesopotamia. Hear the Word of the Lord; The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” (Genesis 12:1-3)

Conduit, let us hear the MSG Bible paraphrase on Deuteronomy 32:8-9 for some clarity. “When the High God gave the nations their stake, gave them their place on Earth, He put each of the peoples within boundaries under the care of divine guardians. But GOD himself took charge of his people, took Jacob on as his personal concern”. God put lesser elohim over the 70 nations and He called out Abram and told Abraham, “And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you.” (Genesis 17:7) God gave man FREE WILL and God adjusts to what we give Him. To prevent humanity from becoming too powerful and unified in their rebellion, God confused their languages, making it impossible for them to understand each other, and scattered them across the earth. When taken into context with the whole Bible, we see how HOPELESS man is.  Man cannot solve the problem of man, only God can solve the problem called MAN! This is why our God is LONGSUFFERING. It is written; And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty. (Exodus 34:6-7a) When we consider the time of creation, Adam and Eve, the flood, Noah, Abraham- the timeline shows us no matter what God does, man doesn’t change. Think about how all the famous people of the early chapters of Genesis interconnected. According to researcher,Leisa Baysinger; “By figuring out the life years given in the Bible, Abraham would have been 47 years old at the destruction of the tower. Abraham lived to be 175 years old. Abraham was the 10th generation from Noah. He was born in the year 1948 after creation, 292 years after the flood. Shem and Noah would both have still been alive at Abraham’s birth and at the Tower of Babel event. Shem died at 600 years old and 502 years after the flood. Shem would not only have been alive at the Tower of Babel incident, but he would have been alive to know Abraham, Jacob, and Esau. Abraham would have also lived long enough to know Jacob and Esau. Jacob and Esau would have already grown when Shem dies (he dies about 35 years after Abraham). When Abraham was born, Shem was 390 years old, and his father Noah was 893 years old. (Noah lived 350 years after the flood – living to the age of 950 years). Abraham was 57 years old when Noah died. So, for 57 years Noah, Shem, and Abraham all lived together at the same time. Abraham could have received firsthand accounts of creation because Noah knew Methuselah and many of the other early patriarchs who knew Adam. This would have been passed to Abraham.” The problem is not OUT THERE, the problem is IN HERE- its FLESH! This is why God the Father, told God the Son- “There was no other way”.  And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.” (Matthew 26:39) This is why it is written, But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”(Matthew 19:26) All glory and honor to Jesus our Christ. No shared glory!
