Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. – Hebrews 1:1-4 ESV
Warrior;
God is a God of order! He has a plan. The prophet Jeremiah was told this directly from God to bless all who would come after Jeremiah, who followed after the God of Jeremiah; For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”.(Jeremiah 29:11) Through the study of His Word, we understand that God is a God of order: “For God is not a God of disorder but of peace” (1 Corinthians 14:33). Paul’s rebuke of the Corinthian church was because of disorder. Their worship services were out of control, chaotic, and offensive to unbelievers who visited. Hear the Word of the Lord and the command of Paul; So you see that speaking in tongues is a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers. Prophecy, however, is for the benefit of believers, not unbelievers. Even so, if unbelievers or people who don’t understand these things come into your church meeting and hear everyone speaking in an unknown language, they will think you are crazy. But if all of you are prophesying, and unbelievers or people who don’t understand these things come into your meeting, they will be convicted of sin and judged by what you say. As they listen, their secret thoughts will be exposed, and they will fall to their knees and worship God, declaring, “God is truly here among you.” (1 Corinthian 14:22-25) Paul bases the command for order in the church service on the fact that God Himself is a God of order, not chaos. God is OMNISCIENT, that means He has ‘perfect knowledge”. Great is our Lord and abundant in strength; His understanding is infinite. Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O Lord, You know it all. In whatever our heart condemns us; for God is greater than our heart and knows all things, (Psalm 147:5, 139:4, 1 John 3:20)
Leader, God is Jehovah Geppetto, He is pulling the strings, putting things in order, so that He can do HIS WILL, in HIS WORLD, and in the hearts of HIS PEOPLE. This is the reason why the Bible is self-described in the book of Hebrews; “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12). With today’s verse as the compass, let us consider the PROPHETS; 16 prophets, Major and Minor; God’s vehicle to communicate to the World, before the incarnation of The Word, Jesus! The Lives of the Prophets is an ancient apocryphal account of the lives of the authors of the prophetic books of the Hebrew Bible and several other biblical prophets. The text of the Lives of the Prophets was apparently compiled from various oral and written sources. It’s basic purpose was to provide: “The names of the prophets, and where they are from, and where they died and how, and where their graves lie.” The Major Prophets are Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel. The Minor Prophets are Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. The Minor Prophets are also sometimes called The Twelve. The Major Prophets books are longer and the content has broad, global implications. The Minor Prophets are shorter books (although Hosea and Zechariah are almost as long as Daniel)- the content is more narrowly focused. There are times where God communicates more, than other times. Look at the 4 Major prophets, three of them Ezekiel, Daniel and Jermiah were contemporaries. Meaning God had 3\4 major Prophets communicating to God’s people and the World from different vantage points, and Isaiah was the forerunner of the group, showing up about 100 years before the other 3.
Conduit, the sixteen prophetical books fall into four remarkable and well defined divisions, separated by three “breaks”, or periods of years.The First Group consists of six prophets : Jonah, Amos, Hosea, Isaiah, Micah, and Nahum; covering a period of 102 years, then follows a “gap” of 70 years. The Second Group consists of seven prophets: Jeremiah, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Daniel, Joel, Ezekiel, and Obadiah- covering a period of 94 years, followed by a “gap” of 14 years. The third Group consists of two prophets: Haggai and Zechariah covering a period of 7 Years, then a silent gap of 29 years. Which is closed by the prophet MALACHI, the whole period covered by the sixteen prophets is 316 years. Some of the most famous verses in the Bible are 3:16; “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. To the woman He said, “I will greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth, In pain you will bring forth children; Yet your desire will be for your husband, And he will rule over you. Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? But whenever a person turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.” (John 3:16, Genesis 3:16, 1 Corinthians 3:16, 2 Corinthians 3:16) In today’s troubled world we must keep ourselves communicating with the God of the Universe through His Word. This is one of the great uses of the Psalms; “I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways” (Psalm 119:15). “Even though princes sit plotting against me, your servant will meditate on your statutes” (Psalm 119:23). “Make me understand the way of your precepts, and I will meditate on your wondrous works” (Psalm 119:27). Today God communicates to us through HIS WORD, through the Bible, through our Savior, Jesus. If A=B and B=C, then A=C- it is called the TRANSITIVE PRINCIPLE, it is logical! If you want to know HIM, hear HIM, follow HIM, then you must be in HIS WORD! Remember: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (John 1:1-5) Hear the Word of the LORD, meditate on HIS WORD daily! Read Psalm 1.
