Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying, “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” -Psalm 2:1-3 ESV

Chuck Missler described the Bible this way, “It is sixty-six books written by forty authors, written between 1446 B.C. & 90 A.D. But, now we discover that it is an integrated message system from outside our time and space domain.” The Bible describes itself this way, “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12) And he answered them, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For to the one who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand”. (Matthew 13:11-13) A “mystery” in Scripture–is “a previously hidden truth, now Divinely revealed, but which is a supernatural element still remains despite the revelation.” There are these hidden pieces in all of scripture. When one continues to study the scriptures and read through the entire book, over and over, different truths are revealed. These revelations are in many areas, from words, to a single word, to the use of specific numbers, specific trees or specific shadows of things that will come. We have forerunners to Christ, and metaphors and parables- it truly is THE living, breathing Word of God! This is why if you are a TRUE FOLLOWER of JESUS CHRIST, you must BE IN THE WORD, and you MUST BELIEVE THE WORD!

Leader, according to bible.org, Psalm 2 is the most frequently quoted psalm in the New Testament. It fits together in an interesting way with Psalm 1 to introduce the Book of Psalms. Psalm 1 begins with, “How blessed”; Psalm 2 ends with the same word (in Hebrew). Psalm 1 ends with a threat; Psalm 2 begins with a threat. In Psalm 1, the godly man meditates on God’s law; in Psalm 2, the wicked meditates (NASB = “devising,” NIV = “plot”; same Hebrew word) on how to cast off the rule of God. In Psalm 1 the theme is the contrast between the righteous and the wicked person; in Psalm 2 the theme is the contrast between the rebellion of wicked rulers and nations and the rule of God’s righteous Messiah. Psalm 1 consists of two stanzas and six verses. Psalm 2 is twice as long, consisting of four stanzas and 12 verses. It is believed by many that the most quoted book by Jesus was either Deuteronomy or Psalms, and here we find out that the most quoted Psalm, is this one, Psalm 2- this shows you the importance of this Psalm. There is an all-out assault by American culture, against God and against Christ. Jesus has been outlawed in our government buildings, our classrooms, and our business environment. The only Jesus the world accepts is a Jesus that we do not preach about in the WORD, it is not the Jesus of the Bible, it is a Jesus made into their own image. God has made marriage for the welfare of mankind. And the world has attacked marriage, has destroyed the definition of marriage and society has made marriage an abhorrent arrangement. This is one way that “the world” burst our ‘bonds’. Cast away their cords- cords are the 10 commandments. Not only do we not LIVE them, but we also do not want to see them! We are not even allowed to have a statue of the 10 commandments on the grounds of a government courthouse.

Conduit, I believe the reason why this is the most quoted Psalm in the New Testament is because this is the reality of the world we are in. Be “in the world, but not of the world” is a phrase that is heard a lot in Christian circles. Jesus spoke these words in John 15:19 and John 17:14-16. This critical point is also talked about many times by Paul in three important new testament letters! (see: Romans 12:2; Ephesians 4:22-24; 1 Thessalonians 4:1). Why is Psalm 2 so widely quoted? I believe it is because that is the world we live in. Dr. J Vernon McGee puts it like this, “We are living in a world in which, in the Political world there is CONFUSION, in the MORAL realm there is CORRUPTION, in the SPIRITUAL sphere there is COMPROMISE and INDIFFERENCE, and in the SOCIAL sphere there is COMFORT- this affluent society never had it so easy, other than they want it more easy.” Let us read pick up at verse 4 so we can understand this important Psalm about the WORLD, the WAY OF THE WORLD, and the WAY OF THE WARRIOR in this world! 4But the one who rules in heaven laughs. The Lord scoffs at them. Then in anger he rebukes them, terrifying them with his fierce fury. For the Lord declares, “I have placed my chosen king on the throne in Jerusalem, on my holy mountain.” The king proclaims the LORD’s decree: “The LORD said to me, ‘You are my son. Today I have become your Father. Only ask, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the whole earth as your possession. You will break them with an iron rod and smash them like clay pots.’” Now then, you kings, act wisely! Be warned, you rulers of the earth! Serve the LORD with reverent fear, and rejoice with trembling. Submit to God’s royal son, or he will become angry, and you will be destroyed in the midst of all your activities—for his anger flares up in an instant. But what joy for all who take refuge in him! (Psalm 2:4-12) Today, be prepared for the return of our MESSIAH, and take REFUGE in Him. Proverbs 18:10 tells us: The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe. The WORD tells us that our God is a strong refuge, and a strong defense. In times of trouble, we can run to God thinking that we are running into a tower for safety and security. RUN TO HIM, and run from this world, and it’s ways! AMEN!
